Whole Bead & Urban Glass shows, NYC

I'm off to the big bead shows in NYC. Wish me luck getting around the city today. I'll post whatever treasures I've found when I get back.

New York was lots of fun. It was a challenge at Whole Bead, tremendously hot, I'm sure the heat was on and it was a warmish day. Very crowded as well. I bought some supplies for a class I'm teaching on bracelet design - rounds @ 4.00 strand (!) in sodalite, black&white agate, aventurine, yellow jade, snoflake obsidian, bars in RQ and sodalite. For me, I bought small (15mm) donuts in white agate and green agate, these I'm going to wire wrap and hang charms from, faceted wine color pearls, black coin pearls for a special order. The Bali silver was tremendously expensive - $1.75 a gram. So, instead I bought some lead free pewter copies at $8.00 a strand in silvertone and goldtone. As long as I tell the truth about what it is, I figure it will be OK. They honestly look the same anyway. Also some ruby and gold faceted rectangle beads, some 4mm faceted glass rounds to use for beadwoven earrings. My "find" was two pair of carved lavender jade drops with silvertone tops, really pretty at $12.00 each. One pair is a gift for a beading friend. I also bought some pewter clasps, 10 for $7.50 (a steal!),one plain style and some with a sun as the round part and moon as the bar. I love the celestial look and thought these were unusual with a good, shiny finish. Then I went upstairs to the Urban Glass show. I managed to control myself there in spite of all the famous lampworkers who were there. I just bought a pair of Ofilia Cinta's flower earrings and a small pair of coralish orange Boro beads from an artist whose name I can't remember. Both shows run through today, admission to each is $5.00. I could have stayed at WBS forever, just the inspiration of all the colors and shapes was incredible. Wish I could go back today, but I have to work, sigh. Patti

Sounds like it was great! I go to the IBS when it comes, but it's really gotten smaller. I still enjoy it.
