card reader and dongle

I have a parallel card reader then a usb dongle. When I try to use the card reader it says no dongle detected. If I remove the dongle from the usb port I cannot start the software (which would be correct). This means I can always read the dongle but, never am able to access the memory card inserted into the reader. Question is do I need to get a usb card reader so both devices would run on the same bus, which would give access to the card reader while allowing the softwae to detect the dongle?

Thanks

Wich software is this? I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe that PE Designs

5.x does require a USB card box, and that is also included with the software, whether it's an update or a stand-alone packet. Other packages I don't know anything about.

There is no generic answer. How these pieces of hardware are accessed depends on the card reader and the software you're using. Contact the manufacturers of each and explain your problem.

Are you using two different applications, one to access the card reader and one for something else? If so, one dongle can't work for both. Every dongle-based application needs its own. Since you didn't mention what software (and what version) you're talking about, or what card reader, we can't really offer much additional advice.
