Machine Purchase

I'm very new to this and deciding between the brother Pe150 or the Pe180. I want to be able to use the disney cards and was informed the 150 is unable. I'm also looking into purching a converter box and am looking at the Ultimate box as it looks the most versatile. Does anyone know if the ultimate box can convert the disney designs as well so the 150 can use them? I welcome any advice or horror stories so I can make an informed decision. This is also my first message in a newsgroup. So I'm a little unfamiliar. Thanks.

Welcome to the group, Lisa. I have a Pfaff embroidery machine, but can't help with your question. Someone else will give you answers, though. Emily

You will have to get the Disney designs from Brother. Disney is ever so picky about that!!

Sounds like you need the 180 to me........glad you are getting a Brother---excellent machines.

I have the 180, the Ultimate Box, and Embird. I haven't bought any Disney cards because the built-in designs were enough for me, at least for now. In fact, other than two Amazing Design cards when I first got the machine and didn't know any better, I haven't bought any cards at all. They are very pricey. If you get the Ultimate Box, you can download enough designs from the internet, many free, to keep you going a long time. I use Embird to convert designs to my format when necessary, and also to combine and split designs to fit my hoop. I don't have a clue as to how you could pop a Disney card in the Ultimate Box and do something to make it work in the Brother 150. Maybe if you could save the designs from the card to your hard drive then fiddle with it in Embird. But knowing how security conscious Disney is, I would suspect it wouldn't work. Might just as well buy the 180 and save yourself the trouble.

Hi Lisa, NONE of the brother machines will accept a disney design card unless they have the D at the end of the model number, thats with the exception of the " taste of disney" card which is the only card that will work in the non disney machines. If you are looking for an embroidery only machine the Janome 300E is about the best value you can get, it has a lot larger embroidery area than the brother machines and you will not need any expensive software or memory card writer boxes to get the designs to the machine, all you need is a compact flash card, pcmcia adaptor and a card reader writer box, here in the UK you can buy everything you need to get the designs from the pc to the machine for around £20

As far as the disney designs are concerned, they are about and you dont need the disney machines to be able to stitch them! UK price for this is £699 and my dealer has free next day delivery.

I have the 180D and I love it. I use it as a backup machine when my ULT2001 is busy or in the shop. You can use all the Disney cards with this machine except for "Big Magic". I also bought the PE Design software, so I've digitized almost all of the Disney designs that I have sewn out, but it is nice to have the 180D in case they come out with a card I just can't live without. (I'm waiting for the Disney Villians - if it ever comes out!)

The converter boxes don't work on the Disney cards. The only Disney card that will work in all Brother machines is "Taste of Disney".

I think you have to decide for yourself if it is worth it to you to have the Disney machine versus one that is not. Also keep in mind resale/trade in value if you want to upgrade in the future.

Any suggestions regarding the new Brother PR600?

Sorry, you cannot use Disney cards in any software to convert it to your machine. Disney cards are locked tight! There is, I think, only one or two cards (know one is called "A Taste of Disney") that will work in non-Disney machines. I mistakenly bought Nemo last week, popped it into my ULT and got a blank screen and then my machine turned itself off! I knew a lot of Disney cards won't work but didn't even think of Nemo being owned by Disney. My dealer did let me bring it back....whew!

Not sure what the price is on the new Innovis by Brother, but it is one nice little machine. It is smaller like the PE series, but is also a regular sewing machine. Great for small areas, classes, traveling, etc. It is also a Disney machine with a lot of Disney characters built in. I hear so many favorable comments about it. You might check into it also. I am drooling over it but cannot justify it with the machines I have and don't want to trade in any (wouldn't get that much anyway).

Hope this helped.

I also have The Ultimate and Embird and have thought about the Disney designs. The answer is that most Disney designs are copyrighted, only desgins that are not, would work.

Good Luck

The Taste of Disney is the only Disney card I have around at the moment and my ultimate box allows me to download the designs without any problems.
