It doesn't make any difference. I've used both over the past 27 years. If you've got the combo pliers, flat side up to break. I never groze and I don't teach it. Glass shards get all over the place. Learn how to cut better. A pair of Glastar Ring pliers are a good investment. Heck, I can even use a Morton M-80 with great results. Plus if you have a grinder you can shape out just about anything.

Andy I thought you were a real man not a sissy? We certainly teach grozing, and it's the single best and quickest method for shaping a small mistake. It's a skill that takes a bit of practice, that we encourage using scrap glass over a garbage pail.

As far as being a real man, I'm scared most all the time. I went out and bought a face shield to wear when using my kickbutt new grinder. That puny plastic shield mounted over the top wasn't enough for me. I had visions of long spikes of glass sticking halfway out of my eyeball.

take a 10 gallon fish tank, turn it on it's side, insert grinder. it will contain all the chips, and also any glass powder slung off.
