hinges?

Does anyone use hinges on glasswork, eg jewel boxes etc. I'd like to put doors on my next terrarium. Where do you get them from? (Pref in the UK)

thanks & merry christmas all

Don't know how big the doors are.... but I thought I purchased some hinges designed to take a sheet of plate glass a few years ago - thought it was from Screwfix, but they don't seem to have them on their website. Could possibly have been from one of the big B&Q's.

It's the kind of thing that's used in shopfittings / display cabinets

- so that might be worth a google....?

If I get a flash of 'remembering' - I'll get back to you

Hi Again

I forgot to say.....

On smaller boxes I tend to make hinges from two pieces of fine brass tubing - one fits inside the other. Larger tube solders to the foil on the lid, smaller pieces bend at right-angles and solder into the seams of the box. Often strengthened with brass 'u-section' around then lid of the box.

Are your vivarium doors for the top of the front of the thing ?

Probably front, haven't designed it yet. Usually design during construction, sometimes afterwards. (I'm in Cambridgeshire btw)

I know what you mean

Well - for stained-glass bits you could talk to Freddie at Tempsford Stained Glass

- as toshopfitting supplies - yellow pages or google ?Alternatively.... how about some kind of clear plastic for the doors -I know that you can get plastic hinges that glue onto 'perspex' - butI'm guessing that you've got UV lights which might harm the plastic..?
