Re: Please help identify

No, you are right I am not getting the answer because, unless I am missing something besides some cerebral matter, I can't imagine them to be cheese covers unless someone was a cheese fanatic. I did get a couple ideas, one person thought they could be small plant covers---they 9Tthe glass) come from a farming community and another thought they could be candy dish covers which makes some sense. As for chinese sex, someone came up with that too, but I think the great chairman discarded the devices after he in spoke in falsetto.

Glass goes beyond color, there is something that likes glass whether we know it or not, we can see through it, bend images, drink from it, make pictures and even have a glass of beer; and I vote that everyone, even the one's who are put off by my innocent inquirey, go to the cabinet, pick up a glass, pour some beer gently into it, watch the bubbles and enjoy the life that only glass can bring. Bottoms up!

Apparently you DO have missing brains. Cheese fanatic or not, ever hear of "Hickory Farms"? They sell/sold millions of gift packages of cheese/sausage, and these domed cheese keepers were one of their "trademarks".

I did get a couple ideas, one

If you ever got any ideas, they for sure came from somebody else. You don't appear bright enough to ever have any of your own.

Plant covers made of glass? Right-o. Ever hear of photo-synthesis? Plants have to breathe, too.

and another thought they could be candy dish covers

Only to someone who doesn't have a clue that they are the tops to a cheese plate.

As for chinese sex, someone came up with that too,

Huh?

I just got a whiff of the rancid smell of a troll.

It's probably to cover up a cheese ball like at a party. We used to get them for Thanksgiving and you had to have a cover them up like that. I never cared for the cheese ball much but they are big enough that you would need a cover and why not make it glass so you can see how pretty it is with the shaved almonds or whatever they coat those things in. just a thought. kevin b

Will those 'cheese covers' sing if you hold them up and rub a moistend finger around their edge like some glassware does. Maybe it's the manual version of old Ben's glass harmonica.

ever see one of those big cheese balls at a party or around the holiday season??? my mom used to cover them in these types of dishes. I wouldn't call her a cheese fanatic but what else would you cover a big ball of cheese in and still be able to see it? they have lots of different sized cheese balls so i would assume that would account for the various sizes. I have even seen cheese logs covered with what would look like an oversized butter tray if it didn't have cheese stuck in it. i am going with cheese cover too. just my 2 cents. kevin b

Your are as stubborn as me and as for dense, yes probably I am about cheese and glass-thus the question---however, with a little more politcal astutenss, remember Chairman Mao and his physical decline and the little red book, the gang of four, and you ought to sit down with that glass now. Don't just be a running dog or paper tiger

Thanks, you seem to be the closest yet as they look a lot like the cloches on the 2nd web site. I appreciate your research.

God, now I am stuck, I did not know cheese balls would have the variety of sizes and people would bother with them that much, so I do concede the possiblility

Right on top of the vacuum plate. The $4.99 ball winds up the size of an egg.

Looks like you can use bell jars for plant covers. I was looking at this website

andthe third item down is a replicate of a bell jar. it says:"Bell jars, also called "cucumber" or "melon" glasses were used in the18th century in both Europe and America by gardeners to protectdelicate plants from the cold. English horticulturist, Sir ThomasHanmer first documented their uses in 1659. Most were made of the samedark green glass that was used for wine bottles. Stands 9-3/4" high" I thought that was weird. What was weird? Using green glass for something other than holding wine? That *is* weird.

Yep, that's why I think it would be wierd but maybe they want that portion blocked. Who knows.
