I think it's not due until mid October to us poor subscribers. The ornie issue is the Nov/Dec one.....

Didn't use to be a separate issue from the bimonthly...

My LNSs say "not yet". They've been saying early September all along, and a slight delay from that is not unprecedented.

I've heard different things different places (aka blogs, message boards). Out to shops in September, newsstands in October, mailed in October.... Don't know what to believe.

Last year, I ended up calling in late November and was told that my zip code was the last batch mailing and I should see it in a week or two.

From my publishing experience, I can only tell you that it's very normal for the stitching shops to get it well before the newsstand. Shops are probably mailed via UPS or similar carrier directly from the printer as soon as it's run; distribution to bookstores goes via a different method, and it's typical for a three-week lapse between printing and "on-sale" newsstand date.

At least one shop has their copies.

I just would have thought that a subscriber should have gotten before a newsstand. After all, I paid for "timely delivery" not to get it a month after the newsstand.

Since I work for the publisher, I will try to answer all questions. (I don't have anything to do with the JCS magazine but work in the circulation department which involves bringing in new subscribers for our 10 magazines and tracking results, plus a million other things.) According to our production schedule, the mail to subscriber date is

9/17/09. The newsstand on sale date is 10/6/09. That's not to say that newsstands don't put magazines up prior to the on sale date if they have the shelf space; we have no control over that. We do ship the shop copies directly from the printer via UPS. It has been an on- going debate about shop copies versus subscriber copies and who should receive their copies first. I'm also a subscriber and interested to see when my copy arrives at home. We did receive our office copies yesterday. I know I'm a nerd to subscribe when I work here and can get copies for free but I was a subscriber before I worked here and want to keep my subscription.

I will tell you there is going to be a great design in the N/D issue that was my suggestion (at least I think it's a great design). It was designed by Sharon Pope. I'll let you know more about it when that issue comes out. I really hope everyone likes that design. If not, I probably won't be asked for any more input on what stitchers like.

Nor does it say anything about how quickly the postal service will get it to subscribers. It takes a while for a large shipment of

*anything* to get dispersed through the system, even if it starts off as a pallet of magazines to this center, a pallet to this other one, two to this one -- at least a day at each sorting facility, plus transport time between facilities.

If it goes second class "publisher's" mail, it's supposed to have expedited delivery to some degree. Shouldn't take more than five business days.

My LNS called this morning and said my copies are ready to pick up. I won't go til next weekend. DD's wedding reception party is Saturday (she and new hubby married yesterday on 9/9/09 in a civil ceremony) so I'm kind of booked!

I guess I really feel it should be in my hands (and any LNS's ) long before Barnes and Noble/Borders has it. Not 6 weeks after.

I look forward to the Sharon Pope design

Hear! Hear! Last year, I didn't get it because I didn't find any designs I liked enough to buy the recommended threads for! Definitely

- DMC/common stuff!

Someone posted on one of the groups that she had gotten hers from her LNS already. Can't remember which one.

I subscribe also and my big gripe is that every few issues, I have to call because I haven't received the previous one. then they want to add an extra issue at the end of my script!!

I tell her everytime that I subscribe because I want them all, in order, not a few here and there!!

just me, Catjy from KY in CA
