Believe me, I appreciate Because You Count - it's a great store with great girls. I know quite a few people in this town and don't know one single soul who plays with those fake flowers or does scrapbooking so is the buyer just getting stuff in she likes or are we just getting stuff from other stores that didn't sell - makes me wonder. They can close any time - I'd never miss them. Crafts from Nova Scotia are of much better quality than what I see locally - yet you don't have any needlework shops that I know of. You belong to a guild - do they do all kinds of needlework or just one particular thing? One of you gals ought to get with it and open a shop.

I would never even consider opening a shop - to be a good LNS you need to invest in quite an inventory and have your finger right on the pulse to always be ahead of what people are going to want to find. In addition to that, you would have to be open all hours. Then, in spite of all that, you will find yourself competing with the internet.

We do have a Michaels now, but it doesn't carry much in the way of needlework supplies, it's mostly what you describe. I don't know who uses all these rather crude artificial flowers, but they must sell or they would not have them. Carsand Mosher - the big camera store - opened a Photo Memories store and I couldn't believe the innards there! All designed for photo scrap booking. Just as emails are probably destroying family history because most of us are not writing letters anymore on paper, so cutting up family photos into cute designs seems to further destroy records. Probably came about with all these people divorcing and cutting up their wedding pics so the groom or bride were removed lololol

I lived in Boston for a couple of years - Arlington to be precise - and now am in Nova Scotia. We go down to visit friends every year who live in CLinton, which is in the Fitchburg-Leominster-Worcester area. Whereabouts are you? Louisa

We do have Maritime Hobbies and Crafts. They have a good selection of patterns, and are good about ordering things in.

I figured it had to do with stretched-too-thin working women trying to remove evidence of clutter in the background.

But you're right -- where my mother always took a group photo of my birthday parties so we'd know who was invited, now it seems to be more about making the birthday boy or girl the star attraction, and trimming the photos so only his/her face is in them.

Good point, we were trying once to identify all the people in one of the kids birthday party pics. Some we couldn't remember but they were still with us!

Before I moved I made boxes of pics for each of my kids, some I kept, but I put names on the back of many so they would know who they were in years to come.

The internet is certainly useful for ordering, and I do, but I like to support local businesses when I can, and the guys who work there are terrific.

I'm with you Louisa - if I see something on the internet and want it, I get my LNS to order it for me ... I want to help keep them in business as much as I can. They work very hard to have the excellent shop that they do, and every one of the girls is so very helpful and just plain fun.

I would - but since it changed hands our LNS now caters for every hobby known to man, and the needlework side is more and more neglected.

It`s now very overcrowded, (I took Rosemary Peeler in there last week, so I`m sure she`ll agree) - they often run out of some of the threads (which NEVER happened before), so now I put in an order with www.http:tandemcottage.co.uk every so often. They never seem to run out and the prices and choices are excellent. Which reminds me, I need to go through my thread boxes and make a list for them!Pat

And if I get the INS to order it, I can also get *her* to run around the shop kitting it up for me.
