Just came back from my sort of LNS - it's a specialty interior design store that carries a section of XS stuff, including fabrics and overdyes. They are talking about scaling back significantly. Not as much interest in XS - had a sale after market, 20% off all XS items - probably only had 8 people take advantage. I did point out that there is something of a move to things other than XS - see the DMC Linea line and I recently saw some pillow kits that were very contemporary at HL. She did say she will keep the threads (that's what most stitchers need when they need it NOW) and some charts, but will probably not order more and will have a sign indicating that they can order it for you if you want it.
Another LNS might fold :(

It`s much the same over here - and if you have to wait for them to order it for you, it`s usually faster - and definitely cheaper as far as threads are concerned - to order via the internet! Our local LNS is selling Anchor and DMC for around 65p per skein. I can get it for around 40p or 50p per skein from online shops! The cheaper one (good old Tandem Cottage

) will even wind them onto bobbins for you for free, although it may take a day or two longer. They have a WIDE range of fabrics, threads, kits, gadgets and charts, too. My daughter and I get together and do a big (to us!) order which saves on postage.
