Your local LNS!

Since we plan to be on the road ( with luck) for several months each year, I am compiling a list of LNSs. I know there used to be a book, which was great, and Hoffman's lists some. However, so many have closed, I am making my own up in Word.

I would love it if you would list your favorite, or local LNSs. I am sorting them by city, within state.

if anyone wants anything for a specific area, I would be happy to forward what I have acquired. Some on my list have come fron here ( accumulated over several years), and others from other sites.

Many thanks for all you can give me.

Gillian

Incidentally, not just USA, I want the Canadian ones as well!!!

I have a great LNS -- it's about 20-25 minutes away from my house, on the other side of the river, and at the other end of town, but worth the drive for me.

It's the only real LNS in town any more, the owner is very nice and helpful, and is a great framer.

It's Knots and Needles, located in Bossier City, Louisiana.

If you have any from the Denver/Bounder area in your list, I'd like to know about them.

Also Washington, D.C. area....

Thanks!

Grim Hollow Stitchery

1040 Grim Hollow Road Red Lion, PA 17356 717-244-3220 snipped-for-privacy@grimhollow.com

Wonderful place, catering to all levels of stitchers. Great baskets filled with evenweave and aida remnants and various sizes for use, as well as cutting fabric to size. Very knowledgeable and friendly.

I LOVE this place!

If you would be kind enough to post (or send) the Pennsylvania and Maryland LNSs you've accumulated, I'd be most grateful!

Pat,

If you get north, Mimi's Attic in Tannersville is wonderful. Plus she is close to a great outlet center.

The LNS here in greater South Bend is Needle Nest at 102 N. Center St. Mishawaka, IN 46544

They claim to specialize in Needlepoint, Cross-Stitch and Crewel, but the order is really far closer to Cross Stitch, more Cross Stitch, Crewel, and a little Needlepoint. I believe they have a series of locally designed x-stitch patterns. My cross stitch skills are lacking, so in addition to being a little overwhelmed by the quantity of patterns, I was also disappointed by the small quantity of general embroidery patterns. S.

Hi Gillian - what a great idea. The two stores I use are both listed on Hoffman's but now at least you know they are still in business.

If you get to the Ft Lauderdale Fl area then Cross Stitch Cupboard is very nice.

formatting link
Stitch Cupboard1600 NE 26th St.,Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33305I visit them everytime I go down to see my family in FL. They are a combination gift shop and LNS so the place is a little crowded but they have some really nice things and tons of charts. The other thing I like about them is that they will cut fabric to size, you are not stuck buying a fat quarter of something when all you need is a little piece for an ornament. If you are in the Washington DC area In Stitches is not too far from Mount Vernon and Woodlawn plantations. I haven't been there in almost two years though so I can't say whether they are as good as they used to be or not. I always found them to be a little less than helpful but their stock was excellent. A wide variety of threads and charts as well has having needlepoint canvases and a few other goodies as well.Beverly B

My nearest LNS shop is in Quincy, IL at 5th and Broadway. It is in with an art and framing business called Inman's Gallery. They have very nicely arranged CS supplies. If you come through the center of IL or MO, try and stop by. It is on the main route through Quincy and Broadway leads to the bridge that crosses the Mississippi River at Quincy. Have a nice trip. I envy you. Are you in an RV??

Many thanks to you, Jere, and the other few who responded. I have emailed you privately, and will do the same for anyone else who wants to know what I have gleaned.

This project is in it's early stages, and I really ask anyone with first-hand knowledge of LNSs to email me with the information!! gillianm dot verizon dot net

We can all use Walmart and Michaels ( Hobby Lobby and AC Moore too, not counting the Canadian chains). However there is nothing so nice as being in a new town, go into the local LNS and talk!!! One learns so much; not always "stitchy" but also local history, sites etc..

I know I also have a few I need to add, once I can find where I hid the business cards.

I would be happy to send anyone any info that I have gleaned to this point.

I REALLY want to say, this is NOT a commercial venture; just someth> I have a great LNS -- it's about 20-25 minutes away from my house, on the

I have read parts of this thread with much interest, and have a few requests for shops in three areas.

Norwalk, CT -- My daughter lives in South Norwalk and I would like to know if there are any not to be missed shops near her. We saw one once in the phone book (don't remember name), but when we tried to find it, it was no longer there. This was when she lived in Milford, CT and in a town near there.

Valley Forge, PA -- We are attending a family wedding there at the end of May. We are going to be staying in Valley Forge, but will be in the area playing tourists for a couple of days. I have never been to Philadelphia and want to do as many of the historical tourist things I can, but if there are any LNS's I can fit in, I'd love it.

Sedona, AZ -- I know of the shops in Phoenix and have visited them, but don't know of any near Sedona. There was a knitting shop that carried a few things, but stopped that a couple of years ago. I'd like to know if Flagstaff or Cottonwood have any shops. We are building a house in Sedona, and if I have to go to Phoenix for supplies, I am going to be very disappointed. I have a shop in my town now, and can get to it in less than

15 minutes!!! Yes, I am spoiled. She does mail order and is extremely helpful, but I hope I don't have to do that when I move.

Thanks for any and all help.

Happy Stitching!!!

Not in Valley Forge exactly, but not too far either:

Fireside Stitchery, on Lancaster Pike in Frazer, just west of Paoli. A needlepoint shop with the most amazing array of fibers. And helpful too.

.

Strawberry Sampler on Rt. 202 in Chadd's Ford. They have recently moved, and I haven't seen the new shop. A lot of repro and repro type samplers and a pretty good selection of other xs. Weak on fibers, though.

We are lucky enough to have two favorites.

1) Middleford Yarn & Stitchery Shoppe 143 S. Riverside, Medford, OR 97501 (541) 734-8800 and 2) Unique Lee Yours 3921 Highland Ave, Grants Pass, OR 97526 (541)476-6229

We also have a new one in Medford - Stitchin' Thyme, but I haven't really checked it out throughly yet. I wish her luck, but I'm not sure the area has enough needlework business to spread around that thinly. Liz from Humbug

If you are heading south on I-95 from Washington DC be sure to stop in at Caroline's Thread and Canvas in Ashland, VA

formatting link
is only 5 min. off the highway and has a nice coffee shop next door. Caroline specializes in needlepoint, but does carry Watercolours and Impressions and Needle Necessities and Anchor floss along with needlepoint wool. And Caroline is extremely helpful. Be sure to check her open hours before you go.
