Stitching a whole row at a time

Success in searching old threads with Google is limited to my ability to enter search criteria. It took lots of days and I never did select the correct words, but I found what I was looking for by accident.

My WIP is in the gathering info stage. The link goes to a RCTN thread of March 2003 where Gary V. Deutschmann, Sr. explained his method of stitching.

I would like to try something like that for my project. but have aquestion, Are all flosses ended at the end of each row? I believe Iunderstand they are but would like confirmation. If so is the endleft 4 inches long like the ones 'inboard'? Are the ends tucked backin the same row?

It is an interesting method, and I did a row at a time with the cactus and flower piece but all toghther differently. I like the ordereliness of this style.

Thanks for any help

You might take a look at the Views of Rome guy. He works 1 row at a time & 'parks' his thread. He explains the method on his tip sheet. I'm not sure how this varies from Gary's method.

Thank you from a lurker for posting both of these links!

I've had a new project all prepped and ready to go for a few weeks now but I've been afraid to start it because it has a lot of colour changes, confetti stitches, and blended threads. I did one row last night using a combinations of Gary's and Gary's methods (perhaps it's something about the name Gary that makes people become such detailed stitchers?) and it looks like this piece will now be a lot easier to work on than I was expecting it to be. It's fairly small, but it's the first chart I've ever created on my own from a photograph and I'm really curious to see how it'll turn out, especially now that I've learned this method. Thanks again!

It's interesting to note that Roman Gary does not use gridding or any other form of referencing, because working only one row at a time, he feels everything is quite under control. I hope it works for you as well. Dora
