Of course, they are going, Sharon. Max already knows something is up and wants to go out into the RV. We are slowly getting things aboard, and have to plan for warm and cold weather. I am also turning off the refrigerator in the house, so we are eating some rather odd meals, since the RV frig and freezer are somewhat smaller. 14 cu ft, v 22 cu ft, I believe.

Sorry, I can't help you with LNS locations at the moment; my needleworker's road trip book is on loan to a friend who's driving her DD cross-country to college. I'm half-tempted to fly to the city where they're dropping DD and come back with them via every LNS the two of us gals can sniff out. :)

As you will be passing through or close to The Big Easy, you might want to consider having a look at the Garden District Needlework Shop, which claims to be the largest needlework and knitting shop in the Southeastern states. I'd send you to their website, but it seems to be under reconstruction yet again. I took Tia Mary in there when she was here about 18 mos. ago, and they have even more stuff since then.

If you are not familiar with New Orleans, it is well worth a visit, although you will want to leave the RV in one of the parks on the outskirts and come in some other way - the streets in the old part of town were laid out in the 18th and early 19th century, and they haven't grown any wider. There is also no place to park such a large vehicle anywhere near anything you want to see, and, in fact, they are banned in the French Quarter. However, there is lots of public transpot available.

Magazine Street, where the shop is, bills itself as "six miles of boutiques, antique shops and art galleries", although, as one who lives just off it, I can assure you that it also has pedestrian items like grocery and drug stores, car repair shops, etc. and the restaurants run the gamut from working-folk diners up through veddy posh. (but DH makes a mean G & T at home).

I don't think we have scheduled time there this trip. However there will be many more trips to come, God willing. I am printing out your post to file it for future use.

We do not take the RV into any towns. Jim prefers to stick to Interstates, or major US hwys ;overall we are close to 50ft . We use the Scion as the run-around vehicle, At 32 mpg it makes sense, and it takes up a teeny parking space. I have never understood the people who do not have a toad, and try to park a big vehicle in a small space!! Maybe my intolerance is due to the fact that the MH was our home for four years, and it stayed parked at a campground for a couple of weeks, while we explored with the tow-vehicle.

Well thank goodness for that. You wouldn't believe the people who try to bring their behemoths into town, when the only people who really know how to navigate these two-car-wide streets are the city bus drivers and the beer-truck drivers.

First, make sure you bring some snuggies - although we've been having very warm weather up here in Canada, late August and early September can have very cool nights. There is not much at the Soo for stitching, although North Bay does have a shop. If you are crossing back into the US at Cornwall, you may be going through Ottawa. First - make sure you do the Parliament buildings and the Peace Tower - they are wonderful.

Secondly, there is an excellent xs store in Ottawa - Cross Stitch Cupboard.

Thanks to you all for the input. I am printing out emails; I doubt if we will have time to visit Ottawa this trip, but it is a definite MUST for future trips. I may even have to by Jim C a beer!! I don't think he would approve of me as a model for one of his famous stitchings!! LOL

That's an understatement. Our parking lots must have a certain percentage of spaces designated "Compact", which are significantly smaller than a normal-sized space. I can't begin to count the number of times we've seen a Super-Duper Hummer parked in 1.5 compact spaces. Guess when you're sitting that far up into the atmosphere, the lack of oxygen to the brain makes you incapable of such simple judgments as "my Hummer is not a compact car".

Full-timing! Been there, done that and loved it for all four years!! Would probably still be doing it except for the fact that we had to put down roots, and give the DDMIL a home. Now we have far too much stuff to do that again; however we plan to take LONG trips. In fact, there is no need for us to stay in Florida now, so who knows? Maybe the hills of North Carolina will call us. LOL I have my Road Trip book in the RV, but so many have closed, and a few new ones opened since the book was written. I have been trying to copy out posts with LNS info into a Word file . Must remember to print it out and take it with me!

I was going to suggest Fargo (home of Nordic Needle and Shakespeare's Peddler) and Itasca State Park, headwaters of the Mississippi, but they're both over 200 miles out of the way. :(

Hinckley is fairly close to Duluth (75 m.), where they have the lift bridge and locks for ships on Superior, which is quite interesting if you're into that sort of sightseeing. The North Shore Drive (along Lake Superior) is very pretty, too.

Went to Itasca State Park over 10 years ago, and did the obligatory paddle across the Mississippi. We spent all summer in MN, WI and MI that year!!

Yes, we plan to camp for a few days at Hinckley Casino. prior to going into the Rally. It was an excellent campground in 1994, I suspect it is still good. All the casino campgrounds I have been to are well-maintained.

We will have fun, regardless!! It will be so good to get away, and not worry about the MIL's welfare. If a hurricane blows away the house, well, that is what insurance is for, despite the high deductible!! I plan to take the Dazor, and lots of UFOs and new projects!!
