CATS in Nashville

Well, I guess Janet and I are the ONLY people who frequent RCTN who are going to CATS in Nashville this weekend -- we are checking into the hotel tomorrow for classes on Fri. & Sat. Not one person has posted a word about it :-(. I have posted several times over the last few months and have gotten just about NO response! Sorry I won't see any of you there. All I can say is that I HOPE a bunch of you attend the other CATS venues and spend a few dollars on classes and the Market. If not, then CATS will close for lack of interest and the world will be a sadder place!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I was hearing what vendors were at other HOXS venues, and when it got here, we had almost exclusively local vendors I can visit any time. I e-mailed a couple of the ones I'd really wanted to buy from and was told that they could *drive* to the East/Midwest locations, but would have to fly (and thus pay air freight on the merchandise) to California.

Add in the hassle of getting the merchandise through Customs, and whatever bureaucracy is involved in getting permission for foreign companies to sell in Canada, and I'm afraid you'll have a long wait before the usual CATS vendors decide its worth the trek to Canada.

Maybe you could instigate some Canadian designers to put together a Canadian version with Canadian vendors?

Maybe they could remember that there are stitchers elsewhere in the world who can't afford either the time or the money to trek off to Nashville or Hershey, no matter how much they might like to. If I *ever* make it to any of those venues, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

I wanted to go, but it came down to either the EGA seminar in Atlanta or CATS in Nashville. Mom wanted to go to Atlanta, so that won. Wish I could have afforded both, but since they are both flights or 8 hour drives (I live in northern NC), it wasn't to be.

I'm looking forward to meeting you there. Since I'm one of the instructors, I sort of assumed my name was already on the list.

I'll be checking in tomorrow afternoon - would love to meet you "up close and personal."

Tia Mary had some very interesting things to say about CATS in Nashville:

I'd love to be able to go to 1 of these stitching festivals if they were in NYC - a day trip to Manhatten is a lot easier for me to handle time-off and $$ wise than traveling to Hershey or Nashville (or even New Hampshire!) Lisa

I just had back surgery (double spinal fusion, and I'm doing fine). I'm not travelling anytime in the near future. Between the last 8 months of tracking down and solving the problem and all the expenses that entailed, I don't have the time or money to go to Nashville for a show. I'll be stitching out of stash for the next year or so anyway.

There seems to be quite a lot of stitchers on Vancouver Island and stores as well but here in the lower mainland of Vancouver we have ONE store. I order lots of stuff from the east (when I can get it) but when it comes to most things, I order from the US. The availability and choice is far greater than what we've got this side of the border. Don't get me wrong, there are many online Canadian shops, etc. but most times when I price it out, it's cheaper and waaaaaay faster to order from the States. :-( I do make a big effort to shop here first. Truth be told though, if a show came close by with only Canadian retailers and designers, I would make the effort to go only based on classes. I'm waiting to see what classes the EAC has planned for Edmonton Seminar next year and will make an effort to go as flights can be pretty cheap from here to there. I guess if CATS won't come to California, that means I won't be seeing them in Seattle or somewhere else close by either, huh? Guess, I'll go get a lottery ticket... Jeanine in Canada

The closest to you would be Santa Clara, California (outside San Francisco). Dump the kids at Great America to ride the roller coasters all day, while you shop til you drop.

CATS, the brand name, comes to California (once in SoCal just outside L.A. and once in NoCal just outside S.F.), but some of the vendors who attend all the East/Midwest ones won't come because they have to fly to come this far. It was my impression that they'd really be just as happy if CATS told all of us on the West Coast that they're not doing shows west of the Mississippi, and we should come to them.

I will be at CATS in Nashville. I'll keep an eye out for you, Tia Mary. I'll be the one wearing a Tinker Bell shirt and a nametag with Monarch butterfly stickers that says CrisGA.

Okey Dokey :-). I'll look for your Tinkerbelle shirt and you look for my "Summer Hat" -- a tan straw one with LOTS of flowers around the crown -- and my Flashing Lights Name MARQUEE :-)))! Sorry if I sounded a bit testy in my first post but, I was 8-P***. I KNOW there has to be more than 2 or 3 people who read the NG and also ago to CATS and I just wonder why they don't respond to earlier posts. Heck, if you go back and read ALL the posts about the CATS shows this year, they are mostly like this thread -- people posting to say *why* they won't be going! I KNOW it's far away for the vast majority of you and I KNOW it can be a great expense. I NEVER went to a stitching festival type thing until I moved to Magnoliaville and could drive to the other side of town to attend! It's just that there are a LOT of folks who could attend and would attend if they new more about it. CATS does try to get the word out but those of us who attend AND those of us who teach (Hi Phyllis) need to be a bit more vocal about the show. CATS is the only show left and the southeast has been the worst venue since the beginning. I don't want them to abandon us because the vendors can't make any money in this part of the country. SO -- anyone within driving distance -- PLEASE come visit the market, OK. I'm hoping it will be a GREAT market. I have been to Hershey and THAT is a Market :-)))! OK -- I'll look for you Chris and I'll look for Phyllis and I hope to see my "tea & gossip" buddies Sandra and Carmen. Finally today I am getting excited -- I want to know what the MITIs are gonna be !!!!!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Why is it that all of these events are in the south and on the coasts?????? After all, there *are* people in the central part of the country! Do they ever advertise in the cs mags? I don't know that I've ever seen one, anyway, so I never know when and where they're scheduled. I'd *love* to go to one sometime!

I heard the same thing from SOXS, but they had their HQ in the SE, which explained their loyalty.

What puzzles me is that they seem to believe the entire stitching population of the western 2/3 of the nation lives in California. SOXS/HOXS/CATS have never tried a show in Seattle (for the Canadians) or Denver or Phoenix. And HOXS had the "brilliant" idea of scheduling their California show for August ... when it tends to be a mere 110 degrees in Sacramento. Between the weather and the paltry turnout of vendors, I'm not surprised that attendance was down the second year. At least SOXS had the brains to do it in October, when it's 80-90 degrees.
