CATS Shows??

From what I have heard, CATS is working on another show, but hasn't announced the location yet.

I heard the same thing you did about Vegas. The merchandise mart was pitifully attended and the venders didn't make much.

I hope they add another venue somewhere in the west or mid-west and keep this thing going. I think they could make a go of it if they went back to Sacramento, but it doesn't seem like that will happen.

Hopefully, they will firm up and sign contracts for a second venue and CATS will continue for us stitchaholics.

I wish they would come someplace in the Midwest, preferrably here. Chicago is another option, but I don't like to go there.

Or I wonder if, like me, people stayed in other hotels and the Riviera didn't get as much business from the show as they expected. With all the perks the different hotels give, especially if you join one of their "clubs", there is too much competition for hotel rates. We stayed at the Excalibur because we got a few nights free for being a member of The One Club. Or maybe there was too much competition for other types of entertainment.

I thought Vegas would be a good location, too, and was *so* happy I could finally attend! Having it in Vegas was the reason I *could* attend, since we were planning a trip there, anyway. But I know you had said that it was *much* smaller than the one in Hershey.

Don't forget Darla, TM! I'm sure she contributed, too! :)

Gee, I'm probably going to Branson, MO, in Oct. Wonder if they'd consider that location?

One of the problems with entertainment meccas is there are too many non-stitching things to do. Some stitchers will cut back a class or two or shopping time to make time for shows or gambling or whatnot--especially if the alternate entertainments are less expensive. And if they are staying at a hotel other than the CATS site, those shows within their hotel become even more attractive.

Sure, these other things to do make the trip more attractive to spouses and other traveling companions, but then those people put pressure on the stitchers to stuff besides stitching/shopping.

I think that's one of the big reasons Des Moines held on as a site (through HOXS, SOXS, and CATS) for so long--there aren't forty other distractions every minute in Des Moines!

This is so true. They're great for people travelling with friends/family who aren't doing the "meeting" . But, definitely lots of other things going on. A couple of times DH's former hockey team wanted to do a tourney in Vegas - and as the guys are getting older, and some of the better players either weren't coming - or would definitely be doing the trip for the fun - he just decided not to go. Who wants to get shelled in goal because the competent teammates are too partied out to do much, and the others can't. We've always been happy when going to tourneys where that is the reason for being there - party comes later.

Depends. I think my DH is possibly the exception. He's gone with me to ANG national seminars a couple of times, and just kind of hung-out - would meet me for lunch - check in on the classes, etc. He loves doing that. But, then again - the last one was in Lexington - nice but not overwhelming with things for him to get me to do.

Probably just enough to have some other things, and then keep people at the main event.

My ex-boss decided we should host a largish international bi-annual technical conference in Las Cruces, NM. The rest of the board - especially me who had to do all the work, with my support contractor (our former chief of staff) were not too happy. Las Cruces - nice, boring, laid back place. Not much happening. One good hotel in town at that point - and we took the whole place. "Spouse" program for 150 people - that was hard. We'd much rather have been in a more "interesting" venue. Given the prior conference had been in the Perpignan, France (Pyrenees) and gorgeous, full of great venues for the dinners, etc. Ah, well.

Which is what I realized after I sent that last message! It's what I stated happened in Vegas and now I suggest Branson?!?!?!

Then they should come to Grand Forks.....in the middle of the winter.

And we wouldn't have so many back-country people *itching about the high prices of hotel rooms in the city, because I'm sure your hotel rooms don't cost nearly as much as ours.

Wouldn't know....I've never stayed at one of them!!! :)
