Back from Hershey CATS

I just got back from Hershey CATS. I had a great time at classes (beading, crochet, lace making) and in the merchandise mart. It seemed like there were fewer vendors than last year - they seem to be downsizing. CATS sold off some of its magnifying lamps because it will have fewer classrooms in the future. But someone in one of my classes said Hershey is the biggest and most successful CATS show. (Apparently in Vegas, too many people were gambling instead of stitching). I didn't see anyone from RCTN. (I wore a cross stitched RCTN nametag but didn't see any others.) Hershey was fun! SueW

I wanted to go. DH even wanted to go (but he's a chocoholic). Did you happen to see the Picture This Plus booth?

I was there and saw the Picture This Plus booth. It was mobbed all the time! I'll bet they didn't take home more than a box of fabric. The CATS people said that Hershey is the only confirmed show next year. One of the teachers said they are thinking about having one west coast show too.

I was there--had an enjoyable time and did way too much shopping.

I was there also although I don't post here much anymore. I think I was in a class with Lynn but forgot to look for her. Had a great time and spent lots of money in spite of there having been fewer merchants in the mart. The Picture This Plus booth and Lori Birmingham's booth were both so mobbed especially on Thurs night that it was difficult to shop there. Lori is getting out of the stitching business and switching over to jewelry so everything in her booth was half price or less. I don't know if she is going to completely stop designing or if she is just not going to be retailing her own stuff but either way there were lots of bargains to be had. By Saturday Picture This Plus was so low on fabric that I wasn't sure there would anything left when I got there for my final go round in the mart but I still managed to find one more piece of Cabernet cashel that I had somehow managed to overlook in my first 3 visits to the booth. The line to get into the mart on Thursday evening stretched from the doors down the hall to the escalator and then turned back up the hall. We had all been waiting all day for them to open and everyone was anxious to get in. From what I have heard Hershey has always been the biggest and most sucessful CATS and I am glad to see that it will be back for the same weekend next year. What I had heard was that they were going to try for two other shows but that they did not know when or where. Beverly B

So Elizabeth, were your designs at the Picture This Plus booth? I think a friend of mine bought one, Les Tuileries. It is lovely.

Yes, they were, and thank you! PTP only had the summer and autumn models. I finally finished and framed the winter and spring models, and those pics are here:

I'm on tenterhooks awaiting news of how they fared there. Thank you for my first bright spot in an otherwise nerve-wracking day!

I overheard some nice comments about "In Parts" while I was standing nearby, and also about one of the gardens (forget which one).

I went up on Thursday and back on Saturday-- took a few days to get away from the kids and the madhouse of the everyday routine. It was very peaceful and nice, even if I did decide to forego the spa for more shopping ;-) I suppose I could have day tripped, but it was very welcome to have a couple days of peace! The family collaborated to fund the trip as my birthday gift. I do believe I'll be encouraging that notion again next year.

Best wishes, Ericka

Sounds like a great notion to encourage! We drove through Hershey a few times in the past couple of months, and I sort of thought about CATS, but then forgot.

Hmmm- there's always next year. Sounds like you had a lovely time.
