Back from camp!

As mentioned in an earlier post, I went to quilting camp last weekend. Ahhh! It was wonderful. If Pat in VA chimes in here, she'll agree with me.

I drove 6 1/2 hours to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia and met my friends and roommates there. During the course of the four days, we had meet and greet, a lecture by Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville, a performance of "The Singing Quilter", three delicious meals a day, gifts or favors on the table at each meal, door prizes (everyone got at least one), block lotto, show and tell, a silent auction, vendors and full-day classes on Friday and Saturday. I won two tickets to the Pennsylvania Quilt Show in Oaks, PA.

I took Bonnie Hunter's class "Boxy Stars"

Bonnie was a great teacher and kept us amused all day with her stories and hints. I made my blocks in a variety of aquas, browns and tans. I'd been collecting fat quarters in those colors for ages, and this was the perfect project. The blocks go together very quickly; I have 12 finished already. The next day, I took Karen Dumont's class "Party on the Block".

She made visors for everyone in the class with bright silk flowers on them, and gave each student a little baggie with a fat quarter and Hershey kisses. I made those blocks with a jelly roll from Moda. Since it contained lights, darks, and mediums, I think I would have been happier with fabrics with more contrast. Anyway, I have the process down and have almost finished 9 blocks.

The Singing Quilter (and her husband) were very entertaining, and you'd have to see her Octagon Quilt to believe it .....1/4 inch octagons!!

Anyway, it took almost seven hours to drive home. I got to drive on some of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the mountains were just gorgeous. Monday I unpacked all my "loot", and sorted out all my sewing stuff. Now the sewing room is back in shape and I can finish up the "Party on the Block " blocks. I haven't even thought about sashings, borders, etc. for either quilt.

Yep, Alice, I sure do agree. We had such fun in Camp. While Alice was in the Bonnie Hunter class, I was in the Stitch with Me activity .... we each just worked on our own projects. I made a cute purse, a small one, and kibitzed with friends. The next day I was in Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple Blossom Class. I finished 8 blocks and part of twelve more. I lost momentum during that last group, since I was doing some 'air sewing!' It was a fun class.

My door prize was a pretty panel with backing and binding fabric and a packet of unusual batting ... Quilters Dream Oriental (blend of bamboo, silk, tencel, and cotton.) I also won a set of twenty blocks in Block Lotto, AND $25 gift certificates for use at the event vendors. I used that to buy a few fat eighths and a cool watch with lime green band.

All in all, it was very fun to spend time with friends. BTW: Alice's blocks are gorgeous! Pat in Virginia

I've continued to work on the blocks, and have them almost finished. It was a great time! (Especially the "happy hours" after class). I even provided some Pennsylvania chocolate for the RCTQ oficial "chocolate taster"!

Yes, and I appreciated it. Quilters, Alice's chocolate was superb! I give it a 5 star rating. Pat, Official Chocolate Taster of RCTQ
