Coal Miner Quilt

Pat, What is the title of your book? sounds like it might work. Thanks, Elaine

I have a book about Railroads. Some of the patterns might be adaptable. I bought it at the Rail Road Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. It was a local book there. PAT

Okay, I found it, but it does not have as many designs you can adapt for Coal Miners as I thought it might. !! One block has a appliqué of "Brakeman Bill" with Lantern. I see he has a RR hat, not a miner's helmet. There are some pieced blocks with names that suggest they may work for your Coal Miner Quilt. Brotherhoods (text speaks of employee associations) Eight Patch Lanterns (IMO a very nice lantern pattern; useful for any traditional pieced quilt.) Sorry, that's about it.

Here is info anyhow. Railroad Heritage Quilt Block Designs by Mary Frances Olson

Pat--Check out the North Pacific quilt in the September 2006 issue of QNM. There are several whale and ship blocks you may wamt to consider for your Alaska quilt.
