Specialty Fibers

I just completed Hats N Kats (Kats by Kelly) with RG Very Velvet for the hat and RG Fuzzy Stuff for the feathers.

Caveat: Very Velvet is very pettable, makes a hat that actually looks and feels like a felt hat. But if you are anal about getting your defining backstitches in precisely the right spot, it may not be a fiber you want to use. Those furry stitches blend right into one another without massive amounts of lighting and magnification.

Umm, Karen - Did you use the Fuzzy Stuff for back-stitching? Then surely it's a fuzzy line - tee hee. Very Velvet also comes in Petite Very Velvet - which is usually a better choice on linen grounds. It's a little smaller diameter.

The other interesting thing with VV is how it breaks - it can snap easily - so is well used in short lengths. But makes really nice satin stitches, long stitches. IIRC, the velvet is made like a tube around a thin carrier thread

- so if you break it you can end up with little tiny things that look like sausage links on a teeny weenie scale.

I use the VV a lot in NP projects, not so much in others. But it does feel nice. I've used it to do animals on some NP - gave a very fur like look & feel without the fuzz.
