Grim Hollow Stitchery

Too often we forget to mention the nice things in life (or maybe I mentioned it before, but was going thru a lot of my patterns today and remembered this very nice experience again). While in Pennsylvania this past November to take in a horse sale in Harrisburg, I visited a lovely shop called Grim Hollow Stitchery in Red Lion, PA. The owner Judy was one of the sweetest people you'd ever meet. I just loved one of the models she had in her shop, but unfortunately she had run out of the patterns, so she took my name and address and sent me, at no cost, two of the wonderful patterns I really loved. She didn't have to do that - it was such a nice surprise to receive those patterns. What an absolutely delightful lady and yet another shop to drool over. I will definitely be going back there next time I make it to PA.

That's the shop Maureen - it truly is a lovely shop. The walls are just loaded with model stuff - I just ewwwed and ahhhhed the whole time I was there.

I'm surprised some of the American gals haven't responded to my post about this shop - surely some of them have been there. They're missing out if they haven't been there for sure.

I've been there, Sharon and I agree it's a very nice shop. We used to have quite a few shops in Lancaster County PA, but they are all gone now. It seems my stitching group heads to Reading PA most of the time when we take a buying trip, but I will remind them all of Grim Hollow and we will probably hit there again next month. Thanks for the reminder!

If you go next month Lynn, please say hi to Judy for me. There used to be another really nice shop in Carlisle that I visited time and time again - I think it was called The Count of Cross-stitch .. on my last trip down, I was told it was gone - in fact the whole building, which had a little restaurant, a candle shop, etc. - is gone. Sad. I hope it's not a sign of things to come (even tho' I do have enough patterns and supplies to last me a good 100 years). :-)) What are the shops in Reading so I can put them on my list for (hopefully) next year?

's a very nice shop. My favorite ever shop closed a few years ago. It wasn't too far from my home, but I would have driven an hour to get there if I had to. It was one of those shops where you always find something you've never seen anywhere else. I'll never stop missing that shop!

I did talk to someone in my stitching group about taking a ride to Grim Hollow, so I think we will do it in February. I will try my best to remember to tell Judy hello from you.

Happy Stitching!

Thanks Lynn - that will go on my list for next year - we've got to keep patronizing all our favourite little shops or we'll lose them. We used to have two needlework shops here but one closed - mind you, the one that is still open is a much friendlier place to be. There was also another one about 90 km away and it too has closed. On line ordering is wonderful for those who aren't lucky enough to have shops close by, but for the rest of us, if we want to keep our shops, we have to use our shops.
