CATS in Nashville

CATS (at least used to) have one in Des Moines.

If you go to the website and get on the mailing list, you'll get their brochures ... I get two or three of each.

They may be figuring that people in some parts of the country don't have the extra money (which may, in fact, really be the problem in getting attendance for the one in the Southeast -- a good friend of mine lives in an area with a lot of retirees, and tells me there are very few jobs in town that pay more than minimum wage, and if you ask for a raise, you're told they can always get a senior citizen who'd be glad to do it for minimum wage).

They did, and then it moved to Davenport--just far enough away for me not to be able to make the extra miles.

On the other hand, they used to have in in Des Moines around Sep 13, and I accidentally ended up getting married around that time too, guaranteeing it was out forever.

But...when they moved it to Davenport, they moved the date to April or something like that, so now it's just a matter of dealing with all the stuff that comes along with life changes like marriage--you know, kids.

I went three years in a row when it was in Des Moines. I sure to miss seeing all those colors and textures.

The only one I've ever seen in the central states is Rockome Gardens in Illinois, and even though I live in Illinois, I still have never made it there. This year I'm finally in a position to be able to travel with kids, but kids wouldn't do well at a show like that, so I'm still fairly stuck. And I seem to recall some confusion as to whether the cross stitch show would even continue there after the property was sold. I don't know if that was resolved yet.

I know nothing about the costs involved in putting on something like this, but with the sheer number of convention centers and hotels with huge meeting areas and ballrooms and the like (the Sheraton across the river from my office routinely hosts industry conferences), plus with two airports, I'd think that Chicago and its environs would be a great location for a show. Of course, I'm biased LOL
