Lucille and I have both commented on how stupid we are with the animaux. I sit at this desk with my legs cramped because the old man insists on sleeping under the desk, right where I need to put my feet. I am almost certain it is deliberate on his part and I don't understand why I don't kick him out of the way, I would if he were human !

I do love penguins. I spotted some cute little "Happy Feet" penguin purses in M & S yesterday - I wish I had a small grand daughter to give me an excuse to buy one!!!

Well, it's a bit rough on the baby. And unfortunately it's doubtful if she made the connection to the evil of her ways. But I have no patience for people who are not responsible with their pets. If you don't want litters, get the cat fixed. And I do like cats. Even though, as my doctor said "They'd eat you if they were bigger you know." Dora

We are talking about a woman who knew better. My DD repeatedly (when she drowned a litter) offered to pay for spaying the poor cat so she would not produce anymore litters, that was not acceptable to the woman. She then suggested the woman leave at least one kitten with the mother so that she would not come into heat again so fast, but she didn't.

The poor cat was producing litters all the time. Ironically after Bucket's litter the mother cat was not seen again. Whether she found a better home or perhaps a coyote got her, history does not tell us. My DD was to the point of reporting her to the SPCA but even so, they do not generally manage to obtain convictions for that sort of behaviour. The best they have managed in NS was to have a will overturned wherein the man had ordered that his horses be put down after his death.

Well, the temperature is supposed to be back up around 0 next weekend. Go take a look at the 14 day forecast for Calgary on weathernetwork.com if you want to see something bizarre. Guess I'll have a headache for most of the week.

She has a new one out, Arts & Crafts Needlepoint, which is supposed to be a re-issue of her first one (which is the only one I don't have) with some new charts added. I got a discount for pre-ordering.

My theory is that we like them because they are self-centred. It makes them more human. Dora

I think that goes more for cats than dogs. Most spoiled rotten pet dogs, like mine, would probably lay down their life for their owners and do nearly anything possible to please them. It's a fact that even abused dogs will be subservient to their owners.

To my understanding, Pointers went out of business this summer, or at least that is what I was told at the Toronto needlework show. I didn't go there often, but used to drop in when it was upstairs from Cruikshanks Bulbs (which Indigo books bought out and then closed less than a year later - grrrr). Pointers was where I found my copy of Betty Ring's Girlhood Embroidery!

Oh no! I recommended Cruikshanks just a week or so ago to a friend with a garden to develop who wanted something more unusual. I didn't know that having moved to this condo 2 1/2 years ago and not having ordered from them for longer than that. That sucks big time. Did anyone spring up in their place? I wanted to order some oxalys (sp).

I am still ticked off at Indigo/Chapters for buying Cruikshanks out, turning it into an 'on-line' only store, and then deciding that there wasn't enough business. As an alternate, try Garden Imports, (hmmmmm - I have had their catalog for a couple of years now let's see if I can find their website)

Thanks Marg, I will take a look. I am so sorry about Cruikshanks, I found them superior in every way, never had a single failure with their stuff. I hope the family made a good profit after all the years they spent building up a great reputation.

LOL - have you met my DH? His mom had them all convinced they would die of allergies if they got a "pet". So, he grew up with parakeets. Of course his 2 older sisters (whose allergies supposedly were at issue) rode horses, and now have dogs, cats, and one has incredible messy, full of smelly cat boxes, smelly dogs (though we love them all) and 2 large birds - a huge C*ck-a-too and a conure.

So, me being a horses and dogs person (like cats just fine, very allergic) - was going nuts without either for a few years. When I went and looked at the puppies from a friends Springer litter, and then came home to tell DH his rseponse was "##***%%__@@### - we're not getting a dog - splutter - splutter - how is the house going to get all ready to be sold - splutter-you going back to work--splutter-more splutter" . Fortunately - he was in the pool, on a floaty with liquid refreshment in hand (post a trying day reffin'). My respnses "so, you're off this Friday and we're going to go see the puppies". Within 30 secs on Friday he was on the ground, covered in puppies. And, well, the one that bonded with him was the same as I'd felt most drawn to, and that's our Puckster. We almost took his sister at the same time, but were afraid it would be too much. DH is a total sap with the dog, it's definitely referred to as our son, his son, your son, etc. And now he notices other dogs with cute noises, as well. Despite his "I'm not a dog person" claims - yeah, right. And I'm working him up to the horsey thing - he seems amenable - if I lose the poundage, and am working to make the finances work out.

Puckster - the obvious hockey thing. Plus - that pup went from being picked up at his parents - to a hockey game. Sat on my lap, or at my feet (I was scorekeeping, DH playing). The refs spent most of the game coming to check on the pup. The 3rd game he was at - the pup actually changed the score - without me noting it - suddenly 5-2 was 10-5 the wrong way - he'd seen me hitting the numbers on the clock and was swatting at it with his paw, and actually got the switch to depress. Strange.
