basting in lines for cross stitch

I am starting a very small piece of cross stitch but it is being put(temporarily) on a large piece of fabric that has other stitching on it. I have begun the process of basting every tenth line down and then across but have started to think about how long a process this is going to be. Quite possibly longer than just stitching the piece. Does everyone baste when starting cross stitch?ktj

Well, I agree that the more mundane type of XS can be medatitive but then that's a positive way -- IMNSHO -- to be bored :-). I have certainly been in sistuations where i don't want to even have to count! When that's the case, I will usually take a wash out quilting marker and actually mark my aida (stitching XS on even weave when stressed is a whole 'nother ball o' wax for MOI) with the area I plan to stitch in a specific color. Now THAT is taking mindless stitching to a very mundane level -- LOLOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Ellice, Please _don't_ dumb down your explanations because one, none-sewing, colour-blind British male cannot follow them. I'm sure the regular, active sewers (that doesn't look right!) on the group appreciate your efforts.

That's why I keep some printed NP canvases around. No counting required. In fact, I just dragged my sorry @$$ out of the bedroom to the living room to grab the one I was working on the other night, because I don't feel like counting. (I found some leftover Bailey's in the fridge; it's not leftover any more. VBEG)

But then I heard RCTN calling my name.

My Mom is doing the turtles. Ellice picked out some lovely fiddlers cloth for it and I got her DMC floss because that is what she'd prefer to work with. (Guess my attempt to interest her in over dyes and such didn't take.)

Finished my little NP canvas, Dimensions "Moon Dreamer".

You know me, I can't do anything as designed... I added glow in the dark threads to the moon.

This piece is going to my friend's shop for sale, so I'll make sure to note that the glow in the dark makes it a good choice for a child's room. It's one of the things that I bought with my 25% off at Michaels, just to have a few more NP canvases around for the times I don't feel up to counting accurately; that discount makes it possible to sell it for a price people will pay.

Do I want to know how much I'm earning per hour with these little projects? Noooooooo. But that's not the point. It kept my hands busy during the five-hour All Star game, and it gives her one more thing to fill her shelves. (Alternately, I could've stitched on something I like better during the game, and then had one more piece of clutter in my own house. Much better to be able to send stuff out once I've had my fun with it.
