Bayeux tapestry

Breathtaking - a woman was interviewed on tv today (on the Richard and Judy show). She`s embroidered (looked like crewel work) the whole of the Bayeux tapestry. It took her twenty years - well it IS 65 ft long. She did it in ten ft lengths. Absolutely beautiful, although a lot brighter than the original.

They took her over to France to see the original.

WOW! I can't even imagine!! My in-laws bought me the 4 Bothy Threads kits of sections of it, I don't think I'd want to do the entire thing. Good for her!

I'd love to see a link for those - or her recreation. I just read a book on it that explains the panels.

I`ll keep my eye open for it - there may just be one in a day or two, and if so, I`ll post it. It was absolutely GORGEOUS - I like it even better than the original. I wonder if it will still be around in 1,000 years like the priginal, though?

I actually saw a piece in person in Almonte, Ontario at the Textile Museum there a few years ago that 1 man had replicated in complete of the Bayeux Tapestry. He's apparently a resident of Kingston, a professor. (His name escapes me at the moment.) Our embroidery guild was invited as special guests on a day the museum was closed to see it.

He made it exactly like the original. He did it as a "therapy" of sort after his son had passed away. It was gorgeous. It went from one end of a room right around the room and back again. He had started it with a few kits then when the kits ran out, he invented his own. It was truly breathtaking. He even made a couple panels in the end that went on in the history, designing them himself.
