An LNS review

Hey Gillian, Bobbie V and I got there this AM!!!

Despite the rain, Bobbie V. and I hopped in the truck and headed north. First stop, Contoocook Needlework Gallery.

little place - only open about a month. There isn't a huge range ofcharts or flosses yet, there is some off the beaten path things. I like offthe beaten path things. ;) Some German charts, the ENTIRE Rainbow Galleryline and a silk and wool floss that escapes me. hmm, lots of needlepointcanvases and a few needlepoint kits. Some books that I will "just" have togo back and look at again. I got an older Cedar Hill chart (Country Meadow) and a Derfeine Faden chart called Summer Mood. And some buttons - mostly for DD to play with and a card of Rainbow Gallery Tiara.

The help was friendly - a big plus in my book. Worth a return trip or a side trip while headed north.

We meandered over to Concord (NH) (complete with a wrong turn) and went to Bead It. While Bead It has a huge selection of beads and buttons, I felt like I was interrupting a private party. Two other people were in the store, most likely regulars. No one said hello, can we help you, welcome. I did find some interesting beads and bead mixes. I don't think I'll go out of my way to go back, I'll stick to Le Beaderie in Derry, closer and much friendlier.

All in all, a fun morning

Define "some German charts"? Christmas and European florals? Do they do mail order, or do I have to bribe you?

Let see - Chatelaine, the Derfeine Faden charts I mentioned. I can't think of who the other designer was.

Here's a pair of link to the Derfeine Faden Charts

Cheryl didn't mention that one of the RG threads is Mandarin Floss. It was the first time I actually got to see any. It is made of "Bamboo". Six stranded and really silky to the touch. It has more shine than some silks, but less than a rayon. Brought some home in a nice garden green and will let you know how it works up. It seems to call for a blackwork pattern. Was $2.00 us for 20 yards.

We came home with a Margaret & Margaret freebie and the Nov and Dec Newsletters, both had a needlepoint and cross-stitch freebie inside. I got a Carol Tinson Knot Garden (I may use the Mandarin Floss there), and VS's White Christmas. I also poked through the buttons and found a lot of snowflakes and winter buttons to use on ornaments.

In the Dec. newsletter there is going to be a stitchers retreat in March at the Mount Washington Hotel.

sounds pricey at $500. double occupancy, BUT it includes a cheese and wine tasting on Friday night all your meals, private stitching room, more food and wine activities on Saturday, and a pastry demo on Sunday. of course all the spa and amenities are also available. Sigh!! that's My report, Bobbie V.

(snip!)

The range of Rainbow Gallery is enough to pull me back there! I was also wondering about using the Bamboo as a substitute for "flower thread".

Those are next to the chair for a read tonight! I've never heard of Margaret & Margaret before - does the name ring any bells out there?

I'm going to give most of mine to DD.

Hmm - I need a break from all the hockey!

And fine one it is!
