What to do, what to do (serious vent)

My situation:

I foolishly foolishly fell in love with Eterna Silks and used one on my flagship design and RAN OUT. Why was this foolish? Because it's harder to get (at a reasonable price) than...well, I don't know what.

I need 2 skeins right now, and then later, I want to order a batch of this particular color to keep in stock for my Build Your Own Kit shopping cart.

So I applied for a wholesale account with Yodamo 2 weeks ago. Haven't heard a word. Can't raise them by phone.

I went to one ONS and they have a flat rate shipping of $5.35 no matter how big (or small!) your order. Now, the owner of that (or, maybe she used to be the owner, because now I don't see her name on the website anywhere) has in the past waived that shipping for me, but so far they have not responded to my most recent email either.

I went to another online store (not cross-stitch or needlepoint) and they wanted $4.05 for shipping ALONE.

The only other ONS I saw that carried them says this on their website: "Currently we are not receiving shipments or response from Eterna - we can request items from them, but cannot offer a timeline on their products reaching us - we are very sorry."

There are no LNSs in KC metro area that carry Eterna Silk.

I would surely hate to rip out all that backstitching for want of a skein and replace it with DMC (because the silk just looks so much more smooth than the cotton), but I'm just not liking my whole Eterna Silk experience.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hmm. That didn't help. I think I'll go outside and scream.

I sympathize!

I just ordered North Woods Cottage from Nordic Needle. The site said that ALL of the specialty threads needed were listed below. So I ordered them. Got the package, open the chart and. . . . ONE OF THE SPECIALTIES IS MISSING! Double check the site - no, it's not listed. Then I do a search for it - of course it's not listed, they don't carry it! (Side vent: I think NN may now be on my don't do business list.)

So now I am in the same boat - trying to find a skein of Rainbow Gallery Overture V126 - Timberland - without paying $5.00 for shipping! No place in Columbia (hah - our one LNS) does not carry Rainbow Gallery.

VBS. I love some of these designs. I love the special threads. But I hate having to try to get them.

Well, I was on the phone with Thread Express and I opened your post, so I went and asked her if you had this. I was just going to order it and let you know, but she doesn't have it.

Sorry. :(

And BTW, Thread Express has always been really great at letting me pay a little above actual shipping for 1 or 2 skeins if I call and explain the situation.

Wow - you have a good pair of lungs - I heard you from here!

Pat P

I will second the recommendation for Thread Express. I needed to replace WDW over dyed cottons with overdyed silks and didn't care about whose line it was. I just wanted to match the colors as closely as possible. I e-mailed the folks at Thread Express and they PHONED me to talk in person so that they could describe the different color options. I made my choices then and there and was VERY happy with the fiber cost and the postage. IIRC, they are also VERY good about not charging an arm & a leg when you are ordering just 1 or 2 skeins of floss. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Based on these recommendations, I went straight to thread express to check them out. . . and the site isn't working.

Anyone know anything about that?

Before you start screaming your guts out - what's the number of the silk?

More than likely I have one I can send to you. When Eterna first started doing silk, there was a special offer, a skein of every colour for $100 if you ordered and paid immediately. I did it, it was several months before they turned up, but I have only completely used up a few. Odds on I have the one you need.

Let me know. You can reach me at snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com

It is for me. Try this link:

Check with Kathy @ NeedleDelights.com -- her shipping is much more reasonable than that.

I'll add that I bought the set of stranded silks if you need one of those. I've only used a couple strands of a couple colors (to reattach buttons to silk garments) so have a good supply of everything on hand. I didn't get the mini-twist though so can't help you with that. My real e-mail address is as shown in the message header.

My situation:

I have the complete sets for both the mini-twist and the stranded. Let me know what color you need - I can send it to you.

Ladies, all!

Thank you so much for the outpouring of offers to send me floss. Thread Express handled it for me beautifully (if you call with a very teensy order, they will most likely just "drop it in the mail" and charge actual postage--have I mentioned I love them?), and so there is no need to go raiding your stash for my lack of preparedness.

In any case, I think I'll just simplify it for the customer and switch my requirement for Eterna in the pattern to DMC and call it a day. The point is to make the charts and materials easily accessible to the customer, and I'm afraid Eterna may not make that easy for me to accomplish.

On the other hand, I'm still completely in love with Eterna (like that bad boyfriend you knew better about) and I'm tinkering with ideas for an all-Eterna design. We shall see.

Thank you again! I was very touched.

Just for everyone's information (I've been out of town and just catching up today), a similar thing happened to me with needing to special order one skein of silk. I called Fireside Stitchery in Lancaster, PA, and the gentleman there put it in the mail that afternoon and just charged the real postage. So they have great customer service, too! (and lovely phone conversation, to boot!)

Sue

I've had a similar good experience with Fireside Stitchery (and they have a wonderful selection of fibers too.) I was doing one of the log cabin designs by River's End - lavender I think - and needed several rather esoteric fibers. They sent what they had in stock immediately

- I mean at once! and ordered the rest for me.

Alison

I love Fireside! I've only managed to be there in person once, and it's just mind boggling to walk into the shop. I was after (among other things) a color that had been discontinued and they even went to far as to call the company while I was there to see what they recommended to substitute.

Sara

And on the other hand (this is me eating crow), I just got word that they are out of what I need and will be ordering--but I'll be finishing most everything I have to do before finishing the backstitching in the next day or two, so...I would like to take someone up on her offer.

I am in search of Eterna silk 4670-S (stranded, color of DMC 829), 1 skein (I think), but possibly 2. I will most definitely pay you for it and postage.

Pleasepleaseplease may I buy some? I'm even MORE desperate now than I was last week!

Hey, E., Have you tried "those" women out in OP? I can't remember what breeds of floss they have out there, but it's possible they have Eterna. Tegan

My guess it would be because my silk is not the newer, braided type, just simply strands of silk. You are very welcome to it though.
