Re: Quilty TV on the Computer

There seem to be more sites for watching 'TV' quilty videos now.

I subscribed to the Alex Anderson/Ricky Tims one, but am a little disappointed - too much like a chat show for me, and I find the cheering, shouting audience a bit much. I did enjoy Joen Wolfrom in the latest, but that was only a small part of the show. Also you have to pay!

My favouite seems to be

there is a good selection to choose from and I learn from them - and its free.

Which are your favourites? I have found

I think was the first, but although good, you have no choice of programmes - you get what you are given! What do you think?

Thank you for the warning, Sally. If I wanted to suffer a cheering and shouting audience I would (a) go to a football game or (b) potty-train a 2 year-old. OTOH one of my 'can't live without' books is by Joen Wolfrom. When my own sense of color needs a spark, I always see what Joen suggests. Polly

I thought I was the only one who didn't like the overpowering shouting/screaming, but this morning there are a couple of others on their forum who don't like it either. One lady said her husband in another room asked what she was watching as he thought she was busy with a Quilt Show!

Yes, they do sound as though they are at a sports event, or teenagers at a pop concert! Much louder than the 2 year old!

Thanks for the info!!!!

What with all the hype about "The Quilt Show", I was wondering whether I was missing out on something good. I almost subscribed to it a few times and was very seriously considering it again. From what you said, I'm very glad that I did not, as I prefer to learn about quilting -- not be entertained by it. I also greatly dislike noise and turn off shows on which the background noise (be it applause, shouting or music) detracts in any manner from the show.

I haven't watched that one, Sally, because I didn't feel like paying for it. :S Now that you tell me this, I doubt that I will ever decide to subscribe.

Yes, I like this one, too, though I frequently forget to go watch it.

True.

I used to watch this one occasionally, but I can no longer get it. For some reason it's just not loading, and I find I haven't really missed it much -- probably because the particular episodes I wanted to watch were always on at an inconvenient (for me) time. ;)

Hi Thanks Sally for your links. I have have been looking at QNN. I like it very much. And now, because I have more to look at...O)))) When my husband is looking at the sports ( all kind of sport hehe) i often look at one of our computers. I use the computer a lot, for making patterns (EQ6) and ebroderypatterns. Fun to look at a program at the same time I`m creating somthing. So again, thank you. Hugs from Vigdis in Norway

I find this darned interesting! I wonder if someday we will be able to learn from experts via computer videos the way we now learn from TV and books, but being able to choose exactly what we want to learn and exactly when we want to learn it!

I'm with you, Bev! In fact, when watching TV I always have the remote handy in case Billy Mays starts bellering at the top of his lungs. I won't buy a single product he advertises, just because the loud advertising is so darned annoying.

I subscribed to The Quilt Show and am actually enjoying it. I didn't think it was too expensive (I signed up early when it was cheaper) and like being able to watch whenever it is convenient for me. There is nothing that I have found on regular tv here (Montreal Canada) so this is a nice alternative for me.

I haven't seen all of your other suggesti> There seem to be more sites for watching 'TV' quilty videos now. >

My grandson is ready for potty training, Polly. What are your rates?

You might want to consider the consequences, Alice. My last potty training was with Yogi. He's just turned 5 years old and still thinks he's entitled to a square inch of fried turkey bacon when he does the deed. Might be inconvenient for your little darling. Polly

Howdy!

Me, too, Allison.

$25 per year isn't exactly going to break the bank or the stash pile, and I don't have to listen to dozens of ads (and NO Billy Mays!)as on HGTV, or pledge drives. Alex & Ricky are good w/ this venue.I like it. OTOH, I didn't/don't care much for "Simply Quilts." TEHO! For the quilter who just got ...Direct TV? Dish? Anyway, there aren't many quilt shows on t.v., cable, satellite, or otherwise. One of the most common places those show up is on PBS stations where viewers (sometimes after begging) vote w/ their dollars to get the quilt programs to air. Some of the online shows are not Mac friendly; how narrow-minded of them. *%(&#! them.

Ragmop/Sandy -- back from vacation & very happy to have gone & come home (City of Paducah was gorgeous!)

Sandy, which ones are you having trouble with? I used to be able to get QNN, but my new, more powerful Mac can't. The site says I meet all of the requirements, and tech support never answered my distress call. Oh well. I rather like Quilters' TV, since I can watch at my convenience.
