Canvas size calculator

I'm thinking about converting this:

18 count mono canvas. Is the canvas size going to be the same as 18 count fabric?

thanks!

!8 threads to the inch is the same for both canvas and linen. Nice scene...do you have any sentimental reason for stitching it? Are you planning to use various stitches for it or are you cross stitching on the canvas? Mavia

My dh loves the mountains and the Tetons/Wind River in particular. He's bagged 23 14er's (Colorado's 14,000'+ peaks). He indulges me in my stitching, much of which isn't always to his taste, so when I ran across this (thanks, whoever said they were dong Half Dome), I ordered it.

The designer actually comes from a needlepoint background and she gives information on stitching it on 18 count mono canvas. I haven't decided if I'll do it all in tent stitch or some other stitches as well. I'm leaning towards the latter. I know I'll be switching the colors out to a lot of overdyes. . . . Anyway, the chart includes information on how many plies to use, but not the size of the canvas, so I wanted to double check with someone who might know better than I would.

Thanks for your help!

Yes. It will be the same as 18 ct aida - it's still 18 stitches to the inch. Assuming you're going to tent stitch in some fashion. With the canvas, most people leave a 2" margin all around as a miniumm. The design area converts to 6.8" X 9.3" - so you should get at least an 11" by 14" canvas cut (stretcher bars tend to be in full inches).

Have fun!

Thanks for everyone's help. I was pretty sure the conversion was straight 18 Aida/evenweave to mono canvas, but it never hurts to check. I'd hate to cut it too small!

As long as you convert on stitches per inch - not threads per inch (if you're doing 1 stitch per thread it's the same - but be wary always with conversions in anything that you use consistent units).
