Color suggestions wanted...

IMO "Human Resources" sounds far closer to slave labour than did "Personnel"!

I just finished something that was using a color called Mediterranean Blue Silk from Caron Waterlilies and it seemed perfect for water. It's a variegated thread in different shades of blue ranging from a dark blue green to a light turquoise. I think it has the look of a calm, clean sea without the pollution that makes it look gray and dull.

That sounds like a lot of hard work, but it would be lovely.

Thank you Lucille this indeed sounds like a good description of the many colors the Mediterenean has ,,, mirjam liking to learn new terms.

Well now, that's a different question, eh? ;-)

Actually, in my experience, some companies are very good about developing their human resources, and others are lousy at it--much like the case with any other particular issue you'd care to look at.

Best wishes, Ericka

I like the way you think! I'm with Cheryl, I think. I like those pagan colors. Well, except for the black... I was thinking of using black for the borders. I think (and we all know this could change, daily!) the globe will be blue and green. Obviously, the green for the continents and blue for the oceans. I guess the rest will just have to wait until I get out to play with threads.

Thanks for googling so much! I'm still learning my way around my new connection and find I lose patience with it sometimes. Tegan

Mirjam, What a lovely piece! I would love to find an overdye or variegated floss that would encompass those colors. I guess I'll have a better idea of what I want when I settle on a fabric. Thank you for all your suggestions. Tegan

Tegan ! thank you , I chose my colors , than rolled up small batches on paper and looked at it ,, In weaving [both in weft and warp] i could put one thread at a time, hence my suggesstion that you embroider the colors in a graded manner ,,, you can play with threads take 2 dark bblue , 2 light blue and 2 white , than 4dark , 2 light ,, or 4 white +2 light , etc,,, Don`t forget some Turquiz and Other Blues Best of luck mirjam

How about overdyed cottons? The key to the blues of Air and of Water is, as others have suggested, in the tones within the blues. A clear blue (or blue variegated) for Air, and a blue with overtones of greens for Water. For Earth, I think of "earth tones": autumn colors. For Fire, of course, reds, oranges, and yellows. A quick pass through my collection of overdyed cottons yields:

Water: WDW 1166 Seafoam; NN 1351 Tidepool; NN 135 Bali hai; GAST Tropical Ocean

Air: WDW 2111 Sky Blue; NN 1161 Twilight; NN 111 Overcast Blue; NN 110 Blue Is Blue; GAST Morning Glory; NN 116 Arctic Nights

Fire: WDW 2268 Fire; WDW 2244 Grenadine; NN 155 Voodoo Flame; NN 1441 Witches' Brew; WDW 2225 Marigold; WDW 2233 Hot Rod; WDW 2266a Louisiana Hot Sauce

Earth: GAST Harvest; WDW 2256 Adobe; NN 129 Sequoia; WDW 2236 Copper; WDW 2238 Sweet Potato; NN 147 Copper Pennies; GAST Autumn Leaves; GAST Burnt Orange; GAST Bittersweet; GAST Nutmeg; WDW 2239 Terra Cotta; NN

128 Serengeti; NN 127 MacAulvey Manor; NN 130 Woodland Fantasy

I've copied your suggestions so I can print out a list and go browsing, the next time I head towards the LNS.

Thank you, everyone, for all your help. When I do get this project off the drawing board, I'll be sure and let you know what all the choices end up being.
