Cross Stitch Number 1

No surprise to this group, but the Today Show just showed the results of a poll and the most popular craft in the U.S. today is Cross Stitching. Even beat out scrapbooking.

Anyone in New York want to stop down and show Matt some cross stitch? He claims he doesn't know what that is, and now thinks it's samplers like "home sweet home". Think he needs to be educated to some of the wonderful patterns that are out there.

Don't give me a reason to show off my completed work on national TV. It would a little harder for as I live in CT, but it is do-able.

We could send him a kit with a note on how to start and tips on what not to do. Maybe we could start him off on something easy, say a piece by Teresa Wentzler. Some of her designs should give him a good appreciation for the craft.

Isn't that sort of dropping him in at the deep end? LOL

And if Lauer balked at TW, then have him try a Stoney Brook.

Did you know there are more quilters than golfers in the USA? This means there must be more cross stitchers than golfers, too. Somehow this gives me a warm fuzzy.

It wouldn't be necessarily unheard of. I had some dabbling experience with stitching after learning as a child. Then I got a little more serious while stitching a CS&CC stocking for my coming daughter. As I looked at advertisements within the back of XS magazines, I saw a design that screamed "Stitch me!!". I ordered it, and eventually dove in. Needless to say, the design was TW's "Castle Sampler". I proceeded to stitch it while being ignorant of who TW was (mid 90's at the time). All that started the downhill slide into the XS and stash abyss... LOL By the way, I have since completed both "Castle Sampler" and TW's "Millenium"; 75% done on her "12 Days of Christmas" ornie series. We should see what Matt Lauer thinks of that...

Yeah, I seem to run into the See the Design, fall in love and buy it syndrome. The next thing I hear is "ARE YOU CRAZY". I guess that is why I have been told that I am not allowed to go into crafts and stitching shops alone. That, and the lady at the needlecraft shop keeps thinking that I am lost.

Well - I decieded that at least they could look at some patterns on the web, so emailed them links for TW, MLI, Stoney Creek and Just Nan, thought that would give them a variety to look at.

Then you've got to wonder why GOLF is on every weekend, but you never see any cross stitching shows.

And why Tiger Woods is a bigger celebrity than Teresa Wentzler!

lol

Nyssa, who wishes that needlework got even half as much hype as sports does At River's End
