I haven't done any embroidery since I was a kid, but really would like to learn (something I've been thinking about for a long time). But, I need some supplies & a good book or two.
I live in the Seattle area. Can anyone recommend a good shop where I could get supplies? Is there such a thing as a shop that specializes only in embroidery supplies? I'm actually in Everett but anywhere in Western Wa. would be fine (I'm on the road a lot).
Don't know of anything in the Everett area. However, Cross Stitch Corner in Bellevue is wonderful and Pat's a love. It's located in the lower back of the shopping area at 2nd & 106th, near Bellevue Square. The big shop in the shopping area is called Lifeway's and it's in the corner of the upper portion of the shopping area; there's also a Gregg's Cycle and a quilt shop in the upper level. If you're coming from I-405 S, take the 4th Street exit, turn right off the exit, then left on 108th; right on 2nd and the driveway will be on your left. There's usually a truck or trailer for Boyd's Watches (or jewelry?) at the entry of the driveway. If I remember correctly, she's open Tues-Sat. No website, but here's her address and phone: 138 105th Ave NE, Bellevue, 98004 - (425) 454-1862. She carries a wide selection of charts, a decent selection of fibers and fabric, and some kits.
If you happen to be in Issaquah, go to Threadneedle Street. Denise is located on Front Street, about two(?) blocks past the Darigold Dairy, on the right. If you get to the old Village Theatre on your left, you've gone too far (but not much). I'm not sure of Denise's hours; I only make it out there on Saturdays. Her website is

and she carries a wide variety ofspecialty fibers, fabrics, samplers, intricate designs such as MLI andSilver Lining, and painted NP canvases.Have fun!
I can second the recommendation for Cross Stitch Corner and Threadneedle Street. I was at both last year and enjoyed both. The Yarn Gallery, I think it's more geared toward knitting/crochet. I know they have floss there, but I'm not sure what else. My cross stitch buddy who lived on the same street as The Yarn Gallery did most of her shopping at Cross Stitch Corner in Bellevue.
Have you been to The Needlepointer in Everett? It is on Colby, just before you get to the highschool. They have a whole room devoted to just fibers. I have always found Jill (owner), Kaye and Georgia to be friendly, knowledgeable and helpful - and a lot of fun.
Thanks so much for recommending Cross Stitch Corner & Threadneedle Street. I know where those locations are (though I never noticed the shops before) because I used to live in Bellevue. Next time I get near the Eastside I will check them out ~ sounds wonderful.
Thanks for letting me know about Wooly Thread! I'm not too far from Woodinville & have family near there so I will have to stop by the shop next time I'm in the area.
I am really excited about beginning my embroidery adventure. Since I've been thinking about it recently, I seem to be noticing embroidery everywhere - and am getting inspired.
