Framing issues -needlework

One of the artists i visited, embroidered [ flat stiches] her work for the exhibition, and when i visited her studio , showed me several of her other works, that were all framed and behind glass,,, Thus we sat down for a long discussion , why and if to frame ... I was very careful not to influence her choices, we went through all the pro and anti facts ,,, she made a long list, and i left her to make her own decision ,, reminding her that it might be prefferable to photograph the work without the glass ,, ,,, it seems that this decided it for her , omce she Saw the work through the lenses , was aware that Embridery is not a painting and as such should be treated like cloth not like a paper painting , suddenly she loved the silent movemren that stays in non framed textiles . She discussed it with hasband and daughters and was surprised they all supported her new idea,,, I have some other embroideries that are framed, and it suits those works ,,,, Framing is such a sspecial , almost private thing for each work ,,, mirjam
