Happy New Year to all!

Best wishes to everyone for all the best of everything in the New Year. It doesn`t seem two minutes ago that we were all getting worked up about the new century, does it?

I thought of that last night as our power was out. Back in 1999, we were at a neighbor's house celebrating the new year with other friends/neighbors. At least two of the couples there had been collecting survival supplies/food, etc because they genuinely believed that "something" was going to happen, like "The Government" turning off the power grid at midnight. When nothing happened, we were polite enough not to say anything obvious about nothing untoward having happened. :-)

This year, the power went out at around Noon yesterday, back on between

3:45 & 4, back off until 12:39 AM, back off at 12:43 AM until 12:15 this afternoon! Good thing our only plans consisted of sitting at home next to a cozy wood stove watching movies. Since we have a generator, we just had that on until DH went to bed at 12:45 this morning & stayed in bed until the power came on this afternoon. How often do people get an excuse to stay in bed until noon without being sick? :-)))))

We also were able to finish off the year by paying all of 2005's bills in 2005!

Happy New Year to all, with a reminder to take advantage of those power outages to bundle up, go outside and enjoy the true peace & quiet that can only come with a lack of electricity (until people like us turn on our generators!) :-))

Ours went off at about five in the evening for about three hours. Lovely sitting by candlelight, but we were starting to get cold by the time it came back on!

New Years seems to be a popular time for power outages! Ours blipped last night right at midnight! Just enough to mess up the clocks and computers. I hope it wasn't the power company warning us what we might expect in 2006!

Happy New Year Mavia = it stayed constant this (right) side of the harbour lol I am sure though we can expect outages in 2006. In discussing power companies with Lucille, it was amazing how comparable Florida Power is to our power company, it's like they read from the same book ! Treat us the same too and are applying for the same huge hikes.

Still, that was a minor inconvenience compared with what they`ll be going through in the Ukraine with Russia cutting the gas supplies. Scary thought!

We had a wind storm go through here last night with gusts that supposedly topped 110 k.p.h. I was expecting to wake up this morning to find myself in Kansas! But we were lucky. There were many people who wound up with trees in their living rooms.

As I just pointed out to a friend this morning, there's someone a block down with a tree IN the house; I'm fortunate that the tree is only ON my house. But still a PITA because we can't get anyone to come out and remove it due to the holiday. I can get down my front stairs, but the sidewalk is impassable. But, with the rain continuing, I'm not going anywhere today.

Well, Maureen, lots of us have trees in our living rooms at the moment - complete with lights! LOL!

Glad you`re all OK though.
