Hooray!

Hooray - England lost in the World cup! Now we can get back to normal! Can you guess that I LOATHE football with a vast hatred?

I second that Pat - now all we have to do is pray for LOTS of rain so Wimbledon finishes early and the cricket is abandoned. (my latest saga is at )

Oh good - my husband isn`t the sole man in the UK who hates football! He`ll be pleased to hear that. It seems to attract such OAFS. Our son`s in the C.I.D. down in Dover and has been dealing with them for weeks - now I suppose they`ll be even worse on the way back, having lost!

I quite like watching the tennis, but am not fanatical. We prefer Rugby, but really only then for the opening ceremonies! At least you don`t get nearly as much hooliganism with Rugby fans.

It looks as if you`re getting quite a lot of rain up your way. Hopefully, the promised thunderstorms will eventually get here in a few days` time - as long as it doesn`t prolong the agony and make it run over into the next week.

As a matter of interest, what, if anything, do you do in the stitching line? Or have I just missed that part?

Yes, I think that there is some rain down in Scotland but we have not had any for a day or two. I don't stitch although I used to darn my own socks when I was in the RAF - being colour blind any stitchwork would be quite an interesting challenge! My wife does cross-stitch and blackwork - I posted a question on this group on her behalf as she is not really a "computer person".

And since you're already aware of blackwork, where being color blind doesn't matter because it's all one color......

Well done, Brenda, you`ll make a convert of him yet! Blackwork would be a good start. My son`s partly colourblind, too - it`s in the family.

Anyway, Bruce, if you bought your wife a cross stitch/blackwork design programme, she might get interested in computers! Meanwhile you`ll have to keep us updated on what she`s doing, and maybe put her a special page on your lovely website.

I'm afraid I don't really have an interest in stitchwork, although I've been retired for nearly 3 years my time is spent designing & building my model railway (a VERY long-term project!) and, in an attempt to keep the grey cells from atrophying, my OU studies. And, of course, all the other routine stuff such as keeping the house in good repair etc. We have two software packages (Easy Cross & Cross Stitcher) that convert pictures into charts for cross-stitch but Maureen relies on me running the software on her behalf. Thanks for the kind words about my website.

Z gauge? My eyes are only just up to coping with 4mm scale. I had started out by using ScaleFour but decided life was too short to design (Templot) and build track and then convert rolling stock. So now I am using 00 (4mm scale RTR on 16.5mm handbuilt trackwork) - I have a 30ft x 8ft loft to fill....

Hmmmm. Makes me want to get my old Lionel electric train (Diesel engine, in its original orange box) out from under the bed. I haven't put it together in years, but I can't bear to part with it. I got it for Christmas in 196? - before 1964, because I don't remember my little sister being present yet and the same year I got Beanie & Cecil talking toys, the kind where you pull the string and they talk. :-))) The transformer for the train set would need to be replaced & some of the track pieces, but I still have the rockets used to blow up the "exploding" box car and the little sattellite piece that I was only allowed to wind 8 times so it wouldn't hit the ceiling & make marks on it. :-))) Liz from Humbug

Take care Liz, you may have quite a valuable item on your hands! People have been known to pay very, very serious money indeed for trains in their original box. Check out eBay or mention it on one of the model railway newsgroups - you may be surprised at the reactions....

A quick follow-up - Lionel items seem to fetch several hundred dollars, see eBay page

I know. I looked into it several years ago and then was seriously tempted back when our finances were desperate, but the amount it would have brought in was not quite enough to pay anything substantial and I decided that the one time boost wasn't enough to counter balance not being able to take the train out and relive the memories. :-))))) On the other hand, when I'm dead & gone, one of the nieces or nephews can do with it what they want. Whose products are you using? I think Marklin is the only place making Z gauge (which is 1:220 scale)
