How many projects in your closets?

I was just being nosey and wondering how many craft projects you guys have ready to start or have already started that are hanging around the house? I do keep all the DMC colors of thread in my little cases so I don't need kits with thread. I have about 12-15 little jeramiah juction cross stitch pattern books (not kits) to work whenever. Then I have 8 napkins and a tablecloth and a wall hanging quilt that are stamped to do. The lastly I have a crochet throw I am working on from time to time and the pillowcases I am finishing now. I am pretty good about finishing things before I buy new stuff. I have however been known to throw a project away if I realize it's no longer fun at all and I'm over my head.

Too many. Off the top of my head, I have the following already started:

Cross stitch or needlepoint- MLI's The quiltmaker Cross My Heart's Three Wolves Just Nan's Hedgehog Crossed Wings' monarch butterfly on silk gauze John Clayton's Eiffel Tower several Mill Hill kits At least three Hardanger projects A patriotic wreath insert A couple of needlerolls from Shepherd's Bush Fancy Carole's patriotic star

Knitting- Four ponchos A sweater A bag to be felted Two or three scarves

And, waiting to be started (all the supplies on hand and ready to go) Amybear's Jennis Jean A pair of socks

I have no doubt there are more.

A bunch....

A few years ago, I did the Year of the UFO and got the pile down to a handful (most of them likely to be permanent UFOs for one reason or another). Apparently, it's time to do that again.

I keep finding where some hired cleaner tossed a WIP in a drawer or a box or a bag because she didn't realize that it was something I had out for a reason and thought it was just clutter. With any luck, I can collect them all and make a dent in the pile with another Year of the UFO.

Unfortunately, these are not things abandoned in the late stages when it became apparent they weren't going to be done by the gift-giving occasion, so it's not going to be another year of finishing something every couple days. A lot of these were just started and didn't look like anything except a scrap of cloth when they were stuffed out of sight.

I did just finish a quick project ... one of the early Marbek angels that only took 10-15 hours over the course of about a week. With the upcoming workload, that may be my last finish of the year.

Do projects in books and magazines that say 'do me someday' count?

I was wondering that, too. To my OCD's shame ("finish me before you go on to something else or you will die"), I do have some (and do not include the charts that say "do me someday"):

-> "The Kiss" by Mirabilia (also a color conversion).

-> "Lilith" by the Hon. John Collier (but I started that on 4-count monk cloth so it would be tapestry size and I'm not interested in doing it that way anymore) and I can't remember who the charter of that was; bought it off eBay a long time ago.

-> A little thing for my hubby about "me and thee" (two people walking arm in arm in the autumn leaves. I can only work on that when he's not home and I'm not dealing with kids or work stuff.

I am that rarest of stitchers: Fewer than 30 charts in my stash. I rotate mine through to determine what I will and won't keep.

If I weren't doing company stuff, I'd finish those three, two kits I have that are super cute, and then go on to do "Royal Holiday" by Mirabilia.

I was wondering that as well.I don't generally buy material or threads on projects which I haven't started, although I have a few UFO's. Beading is the exception. I have a bead stash. I don't have the space or the money otherwise. But good intentions are cheap, and books provide a certain amount of fantasy time as well as being space efficient. Top 10 needlework projects on my to do list include

- Beth Russell's African Marigold rug

- Beth Russell's African Marigold pillow

- Beth Russell's Morris Rug

- Rug from pattern I photocopied about 20 years ago

- Elian McCready's Alfresco Grapes cushion (I have some of the materials for this one since it uses the same colors as a WIP)

- Computer generated chart from Uncharted Territory, Jardin de Bagatelle (I have the materials for this too, come to think of it.)

- Moose ornament from Stoney Creek, seasonal list inclusion

- Nutcracker table Runner from Cross Stitch & Country Crafts, another seasonal list inclusion

- Graham Rust's Cabbage Pillow

- Crazy quilt or hanging. I have a lot of silk and other lovely fabrics stashed away, but not enough to do a quilt. This might turn into a crazy quilt lingerie bag.

And then there is knitting and beading. I'm trying to adopt a 'finish before I start another' policy, or I wouldn't be able to move in this place. Dora

Just off the top of my head, things in bags hanging in the closet which means I have started stitching. French Alphabet Sampler Strawberry bag and smalls by Carolyn Webb Mexican Convent Sampler EGA GCC Swan Sampler Threads Through Time (the biggest part the sewing roll is finished) but I have four smalls to do. Spanish Sampler Etui By Betsy Morgan Two more kits from Betsy Morgan Water: A Japanese Inro With The Needle and The Pen a couple more EGA region seminar pieces And I don't even want to look in the drawer or basket of stash.

I know I have several (like 4-5) Drawn Thread designs to stitch and they are just the beginning of the stash.

I figure I have to last another 200 years to finish everything I have or want to have.

I have a couple of patterns for Navajo rugs that I want to do on 40 count silk gauze

Ok, I have to go now and get something done.

I feel like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland.

What she said goes for me too. If I look and actually count, I'll feel guilty when one of you enablers out there shows me something I can't live without. This way I can rationalize that as long as I can stuff it on the shelf, I need it.

Ellice,

I wonder if you are doing the same pattern I did. I cannot remember the name or designer. I picked it up while in Alaska.

I did one I think was called Northern Lights with a Polar Bear and cub on the ice with mountains in the background and the Aurora Borealis in the night sky. It came kitted with Aida and DMC which to me looked very dull. So like I usually do I changed to linen (a very dark blue) and changed all the colors save one to metallic threads. I kept the darkest blue for the mountains. I did enter this one in the Utah State Fair and got a 4th place. I was a bit disappointed as that was my worst showing to date.

Aggh - I don't feel so bad after reading some of your posts.

In progress: about 20 percent done - large ndlpt group of irises - will probably take a year to finish it.

In my mind: plan to do a ndlpt cat pillow for my couch.

Also a nplpt stocking for next Xmas for a gift.

Then want to do a magnolia blosson I did years ago for a friend. Want one for my own bedroom. It should do up in no time, tho - about 5 by 5 inches. The framing's what kills me.

Also have chart for a male friend with USNavy motif. Custom frame job again.

I get dizzy just having to list all these things.

Waiting to be framed - - "Lighthouse Cove" ndlpt. Am wtg to wallpaper or paint that room before I decide on mats etc.

Nice thread!!

Awwwwwwww, you don't have to do that (but I won't refuse the honor!)

On that topic, since my last executor preferred to be disinherited rather than make amends for the crisis she caused, that position is up for grabs in my Will. Any volunteers?

You get to vacation in California, fondle all my stash so you can type up an inventory, and then circulate the list among my friends, so they can lay claim to whatever appeals to them. Obviously, as executor, you get to take some for yourself....

I have no doubt it's the same . But, I just bought the chart. And then, as I was working at the LNS, and as is my wont, changed a bunch of stuff. I have a lovely deep, mid-blue linen, and some metallics, some overdyes, some floss in the mix. I had totally forgotten about it, and pulled it out recently in the stash hunting to find some of my things. I may work on it once the Snowman is done. Plus, I don't think it will take that long to do. OR so I say now. Seems like an appropriate winter thing. When I finish, we can compare pix.

I'm sure that I bought the chart at a stitch and quiltin' shop in Skagway on one of our trips to Alaska.

I would never throw away any works , i might though cut out parts of old works, i also have enough fiberartist friends who delight working over a `bedding` of older embroidered materials , just like some painters work over a layer of paints ,, In fact in many of my own xst i have parts where i work in layers of xst in various colors. mirjam
