How to kilfile?

Between the MI5 guy and the one above, I have had it. Can anyone tell me how to kilfile certain posters? I am using Mozilla Thunderbird and free.teranews.com and have not been able to figure out how to do it. I can ignore threads, but not kill a specific poster.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Loading thread data ...

I've got Thunderbird installed but rarely use it. The Mozilla Knowledgebase wasn't too helpful but elsewhere I found something about using the Junk Mail filter, found under Tools that might work.

Look for the "create filter from message..." command, if you want to block something to do with the message you have in hand. Otherwise, look to the "Message Filters..." command.

I'm no expert, but in my experience as a Thunderbird user, it doesn't accommodate killfiling *newsgroup* posters or posts per se, nor does it allow deletion of newsgroup posts made by anyone other than the user.

It does allow killfiling specific threads in a given session by marking all the posts in that thread as read, but the thread will reappear in subsequent sessions if someone replies to a post in the thread.

To kill a thread in a current session, highlight the first post and click the "K" key; Thunderbird then displays a red circle with a line through it for every post in the thread.

To create a filter, click Tools > Message Filters, which opens the Message Filters dialogue. Note that the group you're currently reading appears in the "Filters for:" input.

Next, click the "New" button, which opens the Filter Rules dialogue. Name the filter in the "Filter name:" input and choose how the rule is to be applied by selecting one of the three radio buttons ("Match all of the following", "Match any of the following", "Match all messages").

Next, choose the remaining conditions from the dropdowns below, ie, "Subject" "contains" "[fill in word or name you wish to filter]", etc. Add more names/words to the filter by clicking the "+" button to the right of the third input box and choosing from the dropdowns.

Finally, choose which actions are to be performed from the final series of dropdowns (and add additional actions by clicking the "+" button), then click OK.

If you select a View that isn't "All", you should be able to eliminate a lot of stuff as well if you regularly mark a group as read when exiting the group.

Hope this helps!

Of course you can't delete posts, but you can mark them read, which effectively gets the job done. You can filter on "From:", so you can effectively block particular individuals, and the subject line filters allow you to block individual posts. The filters are not limited to entire threads, unless marking the entire thread as read is the action you choose.

I just knew I'd miss something; thanks for filling in the gaps in what I posted.

Just as a matter of interest, Outlook Express allows deletion of newsgroup posts other than one's own; I used it before Thunderbird and found that feature to be quite handy.

I have now blocked the pig, but if you look at 'properties', you'll see his e-mail address is: snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com I wonder if we a reported him to Google if they could report him. I'd love to see people like this face a jail sentence for promoting p*rn.

Forget that ! Google was the one who helped the Chinese by revealing sources of emails.
