HUGE Happy Dance

Last night I completed my first big piece since my fire. I know most of you will remember that I had a house fire in 2004 and lost everything. Well since then, I haven't been able to cross stitch because it made me cry and broke my heart. (I had 40 framed pieces on my walls that I had stitched over the years.) I took up needlepoint, but it's not the same.

Well, several months ago, I hurt my shoulder and have a large bone spur. I didn't have the arm strength to pull the thread through the canvass. I thought, hummm maybe now is the time to start cross stitching again. I started working on a piece that I had in my UFO pile before the fire and really liked it so I bought the kit again (changed the fabric and fiber). Some of you might be familiar with it - Eva Rosenstand Water Pump. I started stitching the piece shortly after the fire and had about 20 hours in when I realized that I started stitching it too low and didn't have enough room for the entire piece. Since back then everything made me cry, I had a good cry. But being the stubborn person that I am, I decided to start it again on another piece of fabric. I stitched about 50 hours on it and put it away because I was tired of it making me cry. That's when I took up needlepoint since I still had the desire to stitch. Well last night I finished it and took it to the frame shop today!!!

I'm so happy to be able to cross stitch again. Now I'll have to start a needlepoint/cross stitch rotation because I've purchased several (probably more than several) hand painted canvasses and can't afford to let them become forgotten.

Hi, Janet -

Happy dancin' with you -- I think we should all join in on a "bunny hop" or line dance! What an inspiring story!

What's next? Something small, I hope, to give you a break and a quick reward after a big piece!

No, I'm going to restitch a piece that I had hanging over my mantle. It is Little Wings by MLI. My colors are pink and green and this piece suits me. I first saw it back in 1989 hanging on the wall in a shop. I immediately fell in love with it. The shop owner told me she completed it for a family. The original stitcher had passed away. I completed the piece in 1992, which was before we started stitching the faces over one. I'll try make this piece even better than the original which will be hard to do because the eyes ain't what they used to be. I'm going to stitch it on 32 count Belfast linen - Fairy Dust with Anchor floss.

I was so excited that I completed the piece that I had to call Tia Mary because of all the people in the world she knows how big this completion is for me. She was so proud - just like a Mama would be if her child had a big accomplishment!

You guys have NO idea what a HUGE step this is for Janet. Now she can really start to get back to her "before the fire" life :-)

Huge hugs dear. That is great news. I've read what's next (and Googled it - quite lovely).

Happy stitching.

Oh, Janet, I'm *so* happy you've found the joy of stitching again! And *such* a pretty piece to start with. I remember TM reporting about your fire very well! I hope everything continues to go well for you.

Congratulations on getting started again, both physically and emotionally. Godd for you - especially getting a finished piece accomplished.

Sounds like a great idea, and congrats again.
