I think we have lost another LNS

I don't think mine is that high! But, we've been here for years and did the

15 year thing when DS was about 3 and I was working still. C

At least I'll be able to finish the little geisha that I'm working on. The cross stitching is nearly done and now I'll have time to tackle all the glitz and glitter and backstitching.

The prices sound quite horrifying. There are a few places for sale on Stronsay - see

Well, the trouble I see here is that there are "Trends", so the moment the trends are in, the rest of the scene is quickly forgotten.

Especially LNS can't cater everything for everyone, but they often are getting too much on the trendy side and forget the rest of their long-term customers. It's a said thing, but it seems its the same here, balance can't be kept.

Joy, I meant this in regards to entrance money. I don't like it at all, when you go to a Craft Fair supposed to have lots of embroidery, and you pay money to be blasted with paper crafts, quilting and knitting. I did see some nice knitting yarn, and some is produced by embroidery thread manufacturers, like Colour Streams.

This "Trend" thing has taken over too much of the business.

Hi Ellice,

we don't have this many local stores where I live, I order the most of it via the Internet anyway, because those locally sell mostly the usual stuff like Anchor, DMC eg. When I ask about Kreinik they look at me as if I'm coming from the moon. I don't even enjoy the fun being able to browse properly.

This is why the craft show is so important. 1 Chance a year to be able to browse and feel new threads eg. You girls (and boys) in the US are much better off. We are lucky to have the Internet.

But I shouldn't complain, Germany is even worse...>:))

Someone brought about 8 finished Perins canvases to a Sampler Guild meeting a few months ago. They were each a different flower and they were stunning. They were just so impressive in person. If I were to start canvas work that's what I'd do.

LOL - the prices around DC, along with LA, followed by San Francisco, Manhattan & it's surrounding close burbs, and Boston are all scarey. When I was first working in the UK (late 80s) I thought it was scarey there - as we don't have 99 year mortgages or leases. The residential financing thing was very different. At that time, where I was, the prices were pretty similar to here, now, I think it's worse here specifically. But of course, it's pretty scarey in London or Paris as well.

Poor thing - it is fun getting to look and touch.

I understand. Here, at a craft show it would be very general supplies - the "real" stuff would be at a specialty gathering - such as the sales hall that goes with something like Celebrations. I think that in this area we are really lucky to have several LNS. I expect that since this is a high income area, that helps. But, also, at least 2 of the shops rely heavily on their framing business, another added in knitting a couple of years aga, yet another has always covered knitting, and now deals the Husqvarna sewing machines (I don't think it's Pfaff - Caryn would know - that's the LNS closest to her), the one in DC - lots of tourist business, and the one in Falls Church - famous for huge quantities of NP canvases (and tons of thread).

It's tough to keep these shops going. In my friend's shop, which is really supported by her framing business, she also started carrying a lot of artsy things - pottery, folk-art - little bits of wind sculpture for the garden, etc to go with the needlework and framing.

LOL - nothing to say to that.

Glad you at least can browse and shop on the net.
