Let's Talk Needlework

This has been my 'beading week', so I haven't been doing much in the way of embroidery. I made a necklace in wirework this week (it started out as a bracelet), and it needs a bag to keep it from getting tangled, so that is probably going to be next week's project. I like these little bags to try out different techniques and new materials. I'm thinking a coral bag with silk ribbon irises.

I'm also doing McCready's iris panel, although I'm giving it a bit of a rest this week. I worked on it for a couple of days last week, and don't think I had to rip very much out for a change. I haven't worked on my Musical Angel for a bit so am thinking it is time to pay a visit with that project.

I also have a holly bouquet WIP xs picture which I dragged out a couple of weeks ago. I did a couple of leaves, but I found it a bit tiring. It has something like 13 shades of green and probably another 10 shades of tan and gold. I was working on one of the leaves, looked at it and thought, gee those colors are really close together. Turned out I had picked up the same color for two symbols so I had to rip the leaf out. And I was doing so well.

Other than that, knitting, beading and trying to figure out what to make people for Xmas. Dora Album: http:/

OOOF. I read 'Egads forever' and thought, that's an interesting name for a Jacobean piece. Sounds like a lot of my project, Jacobean or not. Dora

Dora, Wow, checked out your photo album - I really liked the beading stuff! Of course your "lovely assistants" brought a smile too. Glad to know they appreciate your art - finished or not. ;-)

Thank you Jeanine. Beading is very gratifying because most projects can be made relatively quickly. My cats tend to create a lot of havoc when I'm beading though. One swoosh of the tail can send everything flying.

Interesting to hear about your bolster pillow. My neck and upper back tend to get tired as well. I keep forgetting to work out with the weights - that helps a lot too. Dora

I've been stalled on my stitching - due to the move and all the unpacking. Between that and the work needed in the garden, its a miracle if I move at ALL in the evenings! I have a great new sewing room tho, with lots of shelves in the closet. I took a whole day and sorted through my stash, and now have it all organized so I "can find stuff". We'll see if it works! I have a very large boxes of WIP, and promised myself I'd finish a few before I start anything new. To that end I picked up one of my Bayeaux tapestry pieces the other night, which I will take tonight when I go check out the local EGA chapter. :) Julie

Life does tend to get in the way, doesn't it. As one of my professors at Harvard used to quote, "Life is what happens when you make other plans." Am still working on a carousel horse from TW. Been working on it for two years. Down to doing the last corner and it will be finished and then I can make it into a pillow for the guest bedroom in Ogunquit. Once that is done I will start a needlepoint tallit bag for my granson who will be 10 this weekend (he 24th). Have a Passover birthday cake ready and will be taking hom out to dinner Friday night for sushi since that is his favorite food.

Just got back from trying to clean out my mothers condo in Venezuela as she is now in New York and I don't think she will ever be strong enough to go back to Venezuela. The chocolate in Venezuela in considered to be the best in the world, so we had to do some taste testing to make sure they were keeping the quality up. Had to visit all the family on both my mothers side and my fathers. The cousins in my generation are staying in Venezuela but many of their children are leaving for the greener pastures of Florida. Between the Cubans and the Venezuelans, Florida is becoming more hispanic all the time.

Kathy Dyer's page altered significanlty in March and is not what it once was (lists to desigers, online stores, etc) I did search there and I didn't find any information about needlework or other usenet style abbreaviations like MIL and FIL.

Thanks for letting me know what LOL is, though! I came up with Labor of Love but it didn't fit in with many of the comments.

Welcome back, George!!! I was thinking the other day I hadn't seen your name in quite awhile. I hope your mom enjoys being back in the States.

's going to be about 16" by 21" all sorts of fun motifs and designsin one color (I'm doing dark red on tea-stained linen.) Why? because I've been working on very colorful pieces for a while and want to concentrate on shape for a while. (Plus it's fun!)

Well then, just remember that they showed up the middle of April when you do your search whenever you do get settled. Or search Arizona or A-1 Snowbird.

Which horse are you doing? I did the white horse (think it was spring) as a give back to a friend. Took a while to get it done, but looked good.

I'm making a nightcover for our internet modem. The thing has five blue lights and lights up our whole house (36' 5th-wheel) The front is being made of a freebie of Erica Michales' from Rainbow Gallery called 'Star and Stripes'

To get it heavy enough to block light (and since I had only cream colored fabric) I'm doing the background in pearl grey. It also has the effect of making the antique red, white and blue pattern stand out a lot more. The rest of this cover will be a black and gold starry fabric left over from the Christmas ornaments.

First time I've filled in the whole background and I do like the effect. Goes lots faster than the main piece I'm working on of the Superstition Mountains, that one is 95% blended colors and they change very often!

Like other rv'ers, we have left our winter nest and have started roaming around. Presently at Lake Amistad near Del Rio TX. Slowly heading to northern Virginia by June for family gathering.

I took a course a couple of weekends ago and am working on a silverwork piece. It is basically three waves, one heavy raised silver, the undertow in lighter silver, the next in lighter weight silver done in a filigree type of way, and the third wave will be done in long and short with silk threads.

I have mostly finished the first wave but want to undo a part of it as I have a better idea how I want it to go. I am not sure if I can recant as it is worked on thin silk, it may not be possible to take it out. I have done the filigree on the second wave but have to plunge the ends. Haven't started the silk one or the beads and pearls yet. Hoping to put Saturday and Sunday in on it and maybe finish the whole thing.
