Since we're supposed to be talking about needlework

I had two kinds of S.E.X. this weekend!

In person: Went to Michaels with a "25% off your total" coupon, got yarn for an afghan for Mom and a baby gift (my "twin sister" is a grandma! It's a boy!!), two XS kits to make for gifts, and floss/fabric for a couple of freebie charts (Cream of Ort Soup and the Mirabilia 2007 cherub).

Mail order: Flipped through the Keepsake catalogue and ordered a few more kits; two are NP so that I can stitch when my brain is too fried to count Xs. They're both autumn scenes so I don't even have to worry too much about getting the right shade of orange in the right place.

I've discovered Red Heart Bijou yarn, soft and sparkly. Got to do some math first, but I'm eventually going to be ordering enough to make nice evening-out shawls for a couple of people. (Oh, wait, I'm supposed to discuss that in RCTY, aren't I? VBEG)

I also got to an Alternative Craft Fair a couple blocks from home -- with so many women working full-time, churches are having a hard time getting enough parishioner-made crafts, so they're bringing in stuff from other countries. There were some lovely textiles from a church-sponsored teaching project in Guatemala, carved olivewood from Bethlehem, Sisters of St. Francis were selling things made by those who benefit from their mission in Mexico (as well as things knit here by Sr. KathyAnn, who was even knitting in the booth), our local Hmong community were selling their exquisite stitching (teeny tiny stitches, dozens to the inch, and even the oldest ladies do it without magnification!). So, that solved a couple of my Christmas gift dilemmas, and I did something good for the Third World besides.

That's the one at Center Harbor, right? If so, they had a huge porch sale of their kits....and major construction was going on inside the cross-stitch room. There were a lot of scrap booking supplies outside on the porch, too. My guess is that the embroidery room will be for scrap bookers, and nothing for us! Well, there is always Hunters in Meredith, and the Needlework Gallery in Contoocook!!

Good for you!

Sounds fab. I have some Hmong pieces which I bought at the expo attached to a large AQuiltSociety show. They're amazing. I got a bunch of small ones that coule be interspersed into a couple of quilt projects. Beautiful work. Enjoy your finds.
