Maryland State Fair Happy Dance!

I got three ribbons! Two second-place ones and a fifth-place. The fifth-place was in special category: Christmas ornaments; I don't thing regular categories go "down" that far.

I'll try to get photos soon on my r.c.t.n.p. Not there yet - I'll have to borrow DD's camera.

Okay -

1.) second place ribbon for a box, approx. 3" X3" x 4". The top is from a Just Cross Stitch Christmas ornament issue approx. 3 years ago - an Advent wreath design. Rather than making it into an ornament, I decided to make it the lid of a box, covered in olive greenish cotton quilting fabric with pine needle clusters on it - picked up the green of the holly leaves on the ornament. It will be a birthday gift for my friend/neighbor who loves all things Advent.

2.) second place ribbon for another box. The lid has Marilyn Monroe (headshot) stitched in umpty-ump shades of brown, like a sepia photograph, brown cording with just a hint of metallic gold floss around the lid. I found the chart in one of the BritStitch mags. Box is, again, approx 3" X 3" X 4" or thereabouts. It is covered in brown fabric that has a very slight gold sparkle to it (very subtle) and intermittent sequins glued on randomly here and there. Looks almost like polka-dots, reflect the light in a sparkly manner. Very appropriate for MM!! Inside of the box is lined with sparkly striped Indian fabric - tapestry stripe-type fabric with some metallic threads. This box will be a Christmas gift for DD.

3.) Fifth place ribbon was for a canvaswork ornament. My LNS has a "canvaswork ornament of the month" club, and I believe this was "Miss April." It's red and purple - I think of it as a Red Hat Club ornament - and actually there's a picture of this, come to think of it, at r.c.t.n.p. It's the first photo on the second page - the red one with lots of gold in the tassel.
