MLI Copies on ebay

The person who was selling MLI and other designer copies on ebay is now No Longer a Registered User. So I guess ebay does respond when notified! Seems a shame, they had been on ebay since 2003 - you think they would have known it was a bad thing to do.

Great news - BUT- what`s the betting they turn up again with a new ID?

A funny thing happened to me on Ebay (not "on the way to the theatre!") Last year I suddenly found I was getting colossal bids and questions for a JOHN DEERE TRACTOR!!! Someone had nicked my ID! It was easily dealt with, fortunately.

I keep another email address for Ebay and for giving out to most companies - it`s amazing how much wierd rubbish turns up on there at times.

And of course there was that lovely person from Hong Kong who hijacked my email address several times to send p*rn spam. Another copyright thief, if you'll recall.

Don't worry about MLI and her stuff showing up on Ebay, she has her yahoogroup checking it constantly to try to get that narc chart she offers. Only way to get it is to turn in someone who copies one of her charts, either to give, trade or sell.

I have never actually heard about someone who has received it. I know when I emailed her the moment I got home from seeing my local Walmart setting up the display which used her Xmas Angel illegally, I got a response a week later saying she was already aware.

It's not impossible that someone else beat me to the punch, but I wonder how many "she is aware" emails go out vs the number of narc charts.

Despite not really getting excited about her designs, what is the "narc chart"?

I'm not entirely sure, I'm assuming it's a small angel chart, but I could be wrong. I do know that she promises a "special chart" to anyone who turns in someone violating copyright, and the only way to get this chart is to narc.

She's been offering it for years tho.

Funny - most be a "new" piece of slang - a narc did (once upon a time) refer to an undercover officer specializing in illegal drugs.

"To narc" on someone means "to tattle" on them; it's been that way almost since narc meant an undercover drug officer.

Just one of those wonderfully delicious vagaries of the English language.

New being relative, I learned it in H.S....was the more grown-up version of "tattle." I think I got that name for that chart from Tere, who has always referred to that chart that way.

It threw me at first because we spell it "Nark". Someone who reports someone else`s crimes.

Must be my age and relative naiveté - it was always "ratting on" someone when I was growing up.

Not new at all. Over 25 years ago it was the slang for any tattle-tale.

Actually, Beth wanted my address and to know which chart I would like. I told her it wasn't necessary, although I did appreciate the offer. So I think it is a legitimate thing.

Well, as about 25 years ago, I was quite firmly not watching "network" TV and working with a bunch of nerds.

I was in middle school--quite common use there. I don't think I heard it on tv until many years later. Then again, I don't watch a lot of crime dramas.

Snip

Funny how things change - it was squealing or ratting when I was in HS and college. Narc was a noun, not a verb.

A local radio station is celebrating it's 20th anniversary and is going to "party like it is 1986". DS was astounded to know I'd been out of college for 5 years and "married" to DH for 3. OMG, I feel old.

Yah - that idiot did the same thing to me when I tried to report his copyright violations (I made the mistake of posting on the group that I was going to do so). The first thing I knew was when I got irate messages from people me they were going to have my e-mail cancelled for sending obscene messages to children.

The creepiest thing was the replies I got from guys who thought it was a real posting. Luckily most people realized what was going on - in fact one fellow e-mailed me to give me a heads up.

Some time later, doing a google on myself to find messages in newsgroups, I found the spoofed messages. Yikes - to think that people might think these really were from me.

That's "retting":

ret (rt) v. ret·ted, ret·ting, rets v. tr.

To moisten or soak (flax, for example) in order to soften and separate the fibers by partial rotting.

v. intr.

To become so moistened or soaked.
