More on Knitting

So -- I guess I can justify talking about knitting here because it DOES use needles and I know more of you than I know over at RCTY. *IF* I continue to enjoy the whole knitting thing, I will consider checking over at RCTY. That being said, I have finished my last beginner knitting class and will have photos of my completed scarf WITH the fringe. Next up is a felting class where we knit a large tote bag out of wool and then wash it in hot water. At least I assume that's what we will do with the finished wool bag. There are a few new things to learn in the knitting, I think, like button holes for the draw string top closure. That is if I am remembering the correct bag -- LOL. Mine will be purple, green and yellow because I want to make a liner out of pansy fabric :-). Then I hope to make a roll up needle bag for my knitting and crochet hooks to go with it. Not sure what I will use for fabric as I have several double sided pre-quilted fabrics that would work. Then again, I might have to use some kitty fabric, just to uphold my rep, dontchaknow. After that class, which is during March, Juliete and I want to take the Beyond Basics class where we will learn better how to read patterns and what the different stitches require. Not sure what I will make during that one but there are several projects calling to MOI. One is a lovely shawl made of purple/green/white self fringing ribbon yarn. VBS

-- I have to pace myself or I'll OD and get irritated with myself for letting my needlework & sewing fall by the wayside. Worst part is that after I bought all of that purple/green/yellow yarn (the Red Heart stuff you can run over and it still stays in one piece) I was going through all of the yarn I have collected over the years and guess what I found???? TWO more skeins of the very same variegated yarn -- LOLOL! I guess I MUST like it :-). OK -- off to my Needlework Group gathering where I will show & tell all of my new knitting treasures. Felting is great fun - I made myself a bag for my knitting that way.

Oh boy, sounds like you are really getting into knitting. It is addicting, and be careful if you learn to knit socks...the self- patterning yarns are gorgeous, and one can never have too many skeins of it! I got into sock knitting and lace a few years ago and love it. I rarely do any needlework anymore. The lace work is so interesting, and perfect to work on year round. I teach sock knitting in the Fall and Winter.

Felting is fun too. I've done bags and hats, but the socks and lace knitting are more my thing.

Have fun!

DD made me a bag like this when she took up knitting in high school.

I've felted crocheted baby booties and they come out simply beautiful. Noro wool has gorgeous colors that felt wonderfully. I just recently learned this tip: put a pair of jeans in the wash while you're felting - adds to the agitation/rubbing. I tried it, cutting up an old pair into a couple of pieces, so they'd move around - and it worked. Felted quicker and smoother than ever before.
