OFF TOPIC - hockey news

Congrats to the namesake - playing D is so much fun. And you get to skate backwards and do nifty cross-unders and lane changes, and have an excuse to use a longer stick ;^) Her team's namesakes, however were trounced by the CAPS tonight - in a truly amazing home opener in DC. We figured that Carolina (defending Stanley Cup Champs) would come on strong, which they did, but amazingly the baby CAPs pulled it together, after Olie made some astounding saves.

For the CAPS it was an all-Russian goal scoring event - Alexander Semin with a hat trick, and Alex Ovechkin with 2 - and a nasty leg check put on him by Cole.

Hope the NN story isn't toooo bad, and they're not spit wars - I suddenly have a vision of spitballs and junior high school..... It's just a discussion, friendly and opinionated as ever ;^)

That's too bad :(. I'm a huge Cam Ward fan, having watched him from close-up for a few years on his junior team. He is the best goalie the Rebels have ever had and he came in here having big shoes to fill. He was awesome in the playoffs last year - shades of what he was here. :)

Cam Ward is certainly a fine goalie. He played pretty well. A couple of the goals were right in front of us, the other 3 at the far end. I think # 4 was like a laser blasting in there - he had no chance. Olie just played really well, and honestly kept the CAPs in the game for a while. There was more of a shooting gallery on Olie for a while, though we did see Cam Ward get plowed into once. Sorry, I didn't take pix last night. I've still got to upload the last couple of batches. We were trying to get a good read of the skullplate on his helmet - it has a cross, and then some writing to the side of it.

I think some idiot CAPS fans gave your boy some serious heckling when the bus pulled out of the arena last night. We just saw them downstairs heading to the bus, dejected and pissed off. Can't blame the refs - they were uniformly inconsistent.
