News of DGD

My DGD, for whom I am making a hand-sewn kilt and velvet Highland dance jacket, was injured Saturday playing league soccer (football to non-USAzians). She and several other girls were scrimmaging against the boys' team after her own team finished their game. As she ran in for an attempt to score, she slipped and fell, and the goalie fell on top of her. She did not remember right away what had happened, and later couldn't recall the details, but her right arm and one foot is injured.

DD took her to urgent care, they did an MRI to rule out brain injury, apparently there was none. But her right elbow has something wrong, possibly a bone chip and they put her in a cast. She also has pain in her foot. She won't be able to practice her dancing or play soccer for several days/weeks.

The competition on October 18th in Seattle is a definite no-go, and maybe the next one in November as well.

:-(

Nevertheless I'm proceeding with the outfit....

She's young and healthy, I'm sure she'll be just fine. Just not in time to wear the completed jig costume at this competition for the first time. :-(

Oh, poor girl. I bet she is just devastated. And her poor Mom, having to take care and put up with her. I well remember when dd injured her knee. Arthroscopic surgery, rehab. the whole bit. And still had problems from it ten years later!. Still, knees are very tricky, hopefully your dgd will soon make a complete recovery.

I trust you took advantage of the opportunity to remind her that you told her to stay away from boys until she's 25.

Nah, I'd like great-grandchildren before I'm too old to enjoy/spoil them. ;-)

Well she hurts a lot right now. But she's a trooper, she takes lots of hits during soccer and strenuous dancing also has its share of owies so she's accustomed to some of it..

Yeah, according to DD, DGD is milking it pretty good. "But Mom, I hit my head, I didn't remember to ______." And of course the cast is a nice attention getter at school. ;-}

The docs were not quite sure what the elbow damage was so they put on a cast just to be safe. The foot pain DGD is having dates back a few months. She's taking physical therapy. I'm just really glad the MRI showed no brain damage.

That is really bad news. She must be crushed. Is she also out of school? You can tell her from me not to play with boys, they are dangerous! I hope she gets better soon.

Oh, Kirsten you know teen girls (DGD is 13 now!), she's loving all the attention. She has not missed any school. She is having a fair amount of pain, and can't take much for it, but I hope that will end soon.

As for playing with boys, I think her Dad will keep a handle on that. ;-)

Sounds like you're happily ensconced back in Norway, I'm so sorry we missed connecting while you were over here.

Hi Beverly, I also wish we could have met. We went out West when you went East. This past summer we went East (DC, Boston, NYC) and I don't remember where you went. I didnæt get to meet Emily either and she lives in Houston (It is a scandal really). I do know about 13 yr. old girls. I have one who is 14 and one who will be

13 in 3 months. Hope she has some good books to read.

Much better, thank you. Her left hand is broken at the thumb means no driving for 6-8 weeks; other than that, the cuts & bruises are healing rapidly. I only hope your DGD will recover as fast without any broken bones. Emily
