Pictures of the kilt

was not going to share these, because DD took the pictures but didn't straighten the kilt. It should have been rotated sop that the CB stripe lined up with the point of the jacket back. I'll get better pics later, plus "in progress" pics. Beverly

I'd have gone bonkers over all this pattern matching on the pleats, but, as I know myself, I'd hove died in trying (I found that I've turned slightly - only very slightly - obsessive in recent years; old age, I guess ;-). Anyway, your DGD looks lovely in it and she deserves every drop of sweat you put into that garment. She did win a couple of contests, didn't she? Be careful, she might be accused of doping, with a kilt like that to boost her spring. ;-)

Turned or not, it's freaking gorgeous, Beverly!!! The pleats are perfect. Absolutely perfect. You should be very pleased with yourself. And the girl just gets prettier every year. She looks thrilled with the whole thing too.

Great work!!

I am freaky, in that I LOVE the challenge of matching stripes, plaids and even printed fabric patterns. Since the pleats are hand sewn above the hips, the matching is actually fairly easy, one lines them up and then hand sews with a tiny backstitch along the edge. I loved it.

It's the math figuring out exactly how many pleats-per-sett, and what size they have to be to provide the exact hip and waist measurements while maintaining the sett that drove me batty. Especially as I didn't purchase the fabric, so there was no extra in case of error. I would have preferred 29 narrower pleats across the back, I had to settle for 23. I would have purchased at least an extra half yard.

I suspect I have always been OC. ;-}

Thanks, and yes she was awarded one first place and three seconds. This was her best showing so far at the Premier level.

Thanks, Emily!

I was battling fatigue down the stretch. The time required for all the hand finishing is beyond my experience to estimate.

Thanks, Sharon. The procedure for matching the tartan stripes is interesting, I took lots of pictures which I will share later.

Thanks again! ;-) I could not possibly be more proud of her. I learned yesterday that she qualified for the Regionals (to be held here in Portland) in May, and if she places well she will go to the Nationals which are going to be in Nashville in July. I will be planning a trip to Tennessee if DGD advances. ;-) Beverly

WONDERFUL!!!! Tell her we are all proud of her. ;)

And if you road trip out, let me know. AR is between you and TN. ;)

Best t-shirt I've seen in a while read:

"I don't have OCD. I have CDO where the letters are alphabetical like they should be." LOL

I always relay the alt.sewing congrats to her, she appreciates it.

I'm pretty sure the rest of the family is planning on flying both directions, but I'll give some serious thought to a side road trip to AR. My high school boyfriend lives southwest of Little Rock.... ;-)

I'm a little behind, here but to add my 21/2 cents, I love the kilt. It's gorgeous. I understand your unhappiness with the stripe not being centered. You worked so hard and want every picture perfect. The outfit so pretty and you and your DGD both deserve many accolades. A slightly of center stripe can't take away from the beauty of the project. Thanks, Juno. I can't help it, I worked hard to get the CB and CF stripes perfectly aligned, and when I saw the pictures DD had taken I could have wrung her neck! If the kilt had been rotated just 3/4" counterclockwise (looking down), it would have shown so much better. Well, at least she had it on straight when she danced, I suppose her dance teacher saw to that.
