prom dress pix

Hey All,

Here are some pictures of the prom dress for DD.

dress still has to be hemmed. So ignore the fuzzies at the bottom ofthe skirt. Also, one shoulder of my dress form insists on being out ofwhack. It looks like one shoulder of the dress is higher than the other. It's not, just the form. I got a picture of the skirt where the mend is. And a couple more pictures closer up. Tell me what you think. I don't think anyone will notice it on a galloping horse.....or my fast moving DD. ;)

Wow! That's gorgeous! If anyone sees the repair, he has his nose where it doesn't belong. ;-)

Sharon, that is so pretty. She'll be stunning in it. You made a great save on a great outfit. Repairs like that are what distinguish a great sewist from an ordinary one. Give yourself a medal a big hug and a glass of a really good wine. You deserve it. Juno

Wow, what a dress! (Your DD must be looking really lovely in it!) And I had to look twice at the mend, it's not noticable at all, it looks like it just belongs there, totally part of the overall design. Just as Joanne says: If anybody sees it, he's got his nose where it doesn't belong. Or he's - as we in Germany put it - from the other shore ('vom andern Ufer'); not because he's into details of dress but because he's got his eyes on the dress and not on the charming wearer. ;-)

Sharon, wonderful dress, and your repair is perfect. If you never tell anyone it's there, no one will ever know. What pattern did you use?

It is lovely. After looking carefully at the repair on the last picture, I went back to the previous one and could only find it with effort and concentration. You really made a great save.

Thank you so much, Beverly. ;) I'm not telling anyone...are y'all telling anyone??? lol

It's Butterick B4919. It's a retro pattern, it says from 1952. She picked it out and I just fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. :)

LOL Thanks Ursula. I'll have to tell DD that one. She gets a big kick out of expressions from other languages/countries. Then she gets a bigger thrill out of whipping them out on the unsuspecting/unknowing. lol

Thanks, Joanne! ;) If anyone has his nose where it doesn't belong, she's liable to mash said nose with her clutch purse. (then stomp the attached toes with her killer silver shoes.) LOL She likes to make sure people around her know how she feels.......... heh heh

Thanks again!

My lips are sealed!

Ok, I think you shared that before, I remember looking at it recently. You might not want to tell your DD that "Someone on the sewing newsgroup made that same dress in 1955(?) for

*her own* prom!" If not that one, then one *very* similar!

LOL!!! If she knows that Miss Beverly made that dress for herself, it will be just that much cooler. ;) And too, just more proof that really classy stuff doesn't ever go out of style. ;)

I guess I'm the only one who couldn't find the mended area at all! The dress looks great!

Thanks, Alice. :) If you really want to see what I did, go back to the album, and look at the new last picture in there.

added one more picture to the album that has a couple arrows pointing atthe mend. Sorry, I could only figure out how to make white arrows usingthe "eraser." lol I'm not photoshop smart (it's actually Gimp that wehave. And it's way smarter than I am. I'm fine with that though.) Makes me feel really good about the mend though if you couldn't find it at all. :) Thanks again!

Absolutly lovely. Nice patern Sharon. As for the repair it's miniscule and as my dad would say "a blind man would be glad to see it " Well done. Clap, clap, clap. Claire in Montréal. FRANCE

Lovely job Sharon, DD will be the Belle of the ball in that. It will look great with those killer heels you mentioned too.

What mending? Where?? Sharon, if you hadn't marked it out in the last picture, I wouldn't have seen it at all. Ok, I did have my face about 6 inches from the screen to try and find it, but sheesh...I don't see it in the overall pictures!! I think if some boy is at that level looking for a mend in the dress, your darling daughter has full rights to give him a good swift kick...which is what I'd expect my daughter to do if she's in that situation...but then again, she's already a kick-butt, stay out of my personal space kid...and she's only 5!!

Awesome job, once again!!
