more prom

Hey All,

Finished the dress for DD's pal today.

album with DD's dress. Far and away the happiest prom dress I haveever made. :) Which suits the gal it's for all the way to the bone. ;) She's a great kid. As you will see from the dress, she is very petite!! She is also wheelchair bound, but it sure doesn't slow her down. Just love this little gal to pieces. I took remnants of the polka dot and the bright pink and did a rolled edge on the serger. That way she has scarves to tie to the handles of her chair. I asked her if she would like that and she was THRILLED! She loved her dress when I fit it to her the other day. Fit like a dream, will be even better now that it's hemmed. (there will be no more running over the skirt. She and I were laughing together at her "crazy driving".)

Oh, and this was her design. She and I emailed back and forth for a couple weeks. She knew precisely what she wanted. I didn't have time to draft anything for her, but we lucked out and found a pattern really close to what she wanted. Then we tweaked it from there. :) She was just a dream to sew for.

If I can, I will get pictures of the girls together this weekend.

That is mega-cool, Sharon. Would love to see her in her dress, with scarves on the handles.

She probably already knows more about this than I do, but this video is really wonderful.

what a pretty dress! It is wonderful that you were able to bring her design to fruition, and I love the scarves for the handles.

Sharon, It's a great dress! The young lady has a terrific sense of style. Do you think Fashion Design is in her future? Juno

Thanks, Beverly. It was really fun to do. She has really done a lot with her chair to make it reflect her personality. The back wheels light up when they roll. Multi-colored jewel tone lights. Kind of mesmerizing when you follow behind her to tell the truth. LOL Also the frame of the chair is neon lime green. It's quirky (in a good way) just like she is. So I thought dressing up the chair for prom might be a fun thing. She really loved the idea.

I don't know. I have to brag a little though. She's a senior this year (and we will miss having her around in the Fall!!) She has done so very well in school that she had more scholarships than any of the other seniors in her college prep program (same one DD is in as a junior this year.) So pretty much anything this little gal wants to do is in the cards for her. She's a fabulous person.

But I'm sure willing to sew for her Anytime! It was so great to have a girl who knew exactly what she wanted, but was willing to listen to suggestions from me too. That's the way my DD is too, but it's unusual to find in others.

I put up a couple pictures of her in the dress. DD and I delivered it to her tonight. She immediately wanted to try it on. ;) So her mom and I helped her get it put on. Then she had to put on her prom shoes. I just cackled. When I talked to her earlier in the week, she was going for "princessy" shoes. Well her version of that is a new pair of low-top Converse All Stars!!!! They do have a cool print and she's going to try and find either lime green or hot pink laces for them. ;) How can we not love a sense of humor like that??? She blinked in at least one of the pictures, but you can see her grinning like a demon. That's what she's done ever since her first fitting in the dress. ;)

Her mom said she was worried the gal had started with "chemical assistance" today she was so hyper. She told us she was just excited because she knew I was bringing the dress to her tonight. lol That's the kind of client everyone wants isn't it?? ;)

She was so excited about that necklace. And is she ever a barrel of laughs!!! All four of us (me, DD, her mom and the gal) were laughing so much last night our cheeks hurt!!

She was thrilled too that we all got such a kick out of her wearing tennis shoes with the dress. It's just so her!!

Thanks Kate!! :) I wasn't so sure about the polka dots at first. But once I saw the whole thing coming together, it just looked so happy. I got it basted together, then stepped back to look at it and realized it was just perfect for her. And once she saw it, I loved it even more. ;)

Thanks Lizzy. I promise a full report next week. :) I think they will all have a great time. DD's circle of friends are all so much fun just in general, I don't see how they couldn't have a good time at prom.

**sniffle** Mommy on the other hand may have a little trouble seeing them all so grown up and fancy. ;)

What a thrill you must have felt when she put on the dress, it's absolutely beautiful. The scarves sound like a marvelous idea. Thanks for sharing both dresses with us. I'm looking forward to seeing the girls together all "decked out in their finery." Emily
