OFF TOPIC - season is over

Federov had been my second-favorite player when he was with the Red Wings, second only to the great Stevie Y, but I couldn't forgive him for jumping the from the Wings...

until now. I was so happy to hear that he'd been traded to the Caps and even happier to see that he was again playing like he'd found a real home.

Dang. Hockey is about the only thing I like better than stitching. Well, that and chocolate.

I envy those of you who can actually go to games. At least I've got two of the playoff games to watch this weekend (no cable here).

sigh. Not so proud now. Probably one of the worst games they've played in like 10 years!

Oh dear - does that mean I need to find the news story?

So, do they need a goaltender? I have a large one!

Snip!

Nyssa, That line calls out to be charted and put on my wall.

I'll add it to my ever-growing to-do list.

I'll chart it, but you'll have to stitch it. :)

Not at the moment...maybe in a couple of years (hint hint). Our goalie was in the preliminary running for the Hobey Baker award. Maybe Elise? :) It was their defense that was really off their game during that one.

Boston College ended up the winner over Notre Dame 4-1.

Well DS is interested in UND for 2010 enrollment.

Root away, Nyssa. We like the Habs, too. We'll be glued to TV tonight - see what happens. I think the reality of the play-offs hit the CAPS hard on Sunday. But, they'be essentially been playing "play-off" hockey for 2 months. And we're also rooting for the Devils vs the hated Rangers. At least we'll be at one more CAPS game - on Saturday. When I also have 12 people coming for 1st night of Passover dinner - tee hee. Can you say cook ahead, and hope for no overtime (it's a 1 pm game).

Ellice (who can be seen in a picture on the CAPS website - diligently watching the game, and knitting. We're in the front, DH guy with trimmed beard and CAPS scarf sitting next to me - for the curious).

's the picture with "Take 5 with Gordon" from 3/14. Weird perspective -I'm sitting 1 seat in from the aisle, behind the goal. e

Hey - I was struggling for some hockey things to do some new designs - might make a dandy on canvas, with appropriate "decorative items" around....But, I'll give you credit, Nyssa - lest we have a copyright war. And a free canvas....

I'm hoping to come up with a handful of things to show the CAPS for possible gift items - under local license. Good summer project. We'll see.

I'm with you with the Devs vs. the Rags.

And I absolutely can't stand the Phlyers, so I'm gleefully rooting for the Caps.

Can't believe the Sens are melting down the way they are, but the Pens will be psyched up for the next round after this.

The Wings will finally make it past the first round this season, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a traditional Wings-Avs matchup eventually.

Oh my, the second round is gonna be FUN!

Lots of luck with that Passover juggling. :) Me, I like the OT in the playoffs. Much better than those blowout games where you already know who is gonna win by halfway through the first period.

I'm trying to find the pic on the Caps site, but it's a painful process on dialup. As for knitting at a game, been there, done that over

30 years ago. lol

GO HABS! Nyssa, who wishes there was as much hockey on tv in the Us as there is in Canada At River's End

*big snip*

Thanks - Cheryl & I will continue our standard war on personal e-mail.

Next year, come up for a game here - anytime - the "Phylers Suck" is a regular CAPS cheer - not that I approve of that being acceptable language, but, I've given in. The Phlyers were so running poor Cristobal allllll night. I have some amazing pix - not yet posted.

It was inevitable. We would much rather have seen them than the Phlyers - but clearly the Pens tanked the last game so we get the Phlyers and they got the Sens. At least, if the CAPS make it to Round 2, we won't see the Pens - our psychological nemesis. I'm sure the NHL is hoping that Round 3 will be CAPS v Pens - for the Alex vs Sid hype - imagine the media heaven.

Absolutely. If we go deep, DH & I will definitely be bordering on debtors prison. This is, however, our last season with the Row A seats, so we're lapping it up for all it's worth.

Absolutely. Here, in the regular season, anything bad in OT happens right in front of me! Unless the goalie stones someone in a shoot-out. But, we're hopeful. DH was actually present at the infamous 4 OT play-off game some years ago - and still bears the scars - everytime we see it on some sports show.

Hoping the Passover thing works out - I plan to have the table set, and things pretty much ready to go so that when I get home it's just turning the soup back on, and heating the tzimmes, cooking the fresh veg, and platter setting up. And, we'll be sure one of the guests has a key and the alarm code!

I'll e-mail to you separately - it's not a huge file. The knitting at a game, thing - we get comments all the time. We've even had a couple of goalies notice - nameely Keri Lehtinen - who came over to the glass - looked at Jon, pointed at me, made a bunch of hand motions and they did the guys shrugging at each other thing. Marty also noticed - and just did the head shake, grin thing. A couple of officials have had some fun with it - I was doing a black and white scarf for my cousin, and that garnered some hand gestures of "for me?" .

Well, at least for now there's a decent amount. Even if only temporary.

To try to drag this thread partially back on topic....

Did you know that the great goalie Jacques Plante was a knitter? He grew up in a huge Quebec family where everyone learned to help out including knitting.

Even in his NHL days he knitted his own undershirts when they were on road trips to pass the time.

I may still have the article from Canadian Magazine about him somewhere. If I find it, I'll let you know.

And phone! and what poor ref'ing last night. You was robbed.

And frankly, it's just "safer" to root for the Rangers.

Aaah - we've seen much worse, especially towards the end of the season. Definitely saw something that was so egregious - a ref calling "incidental contact with a goalie" which disallowed a goal that would've put CAPS in the lead. Fortunately they still won. However, there were several of us ref types all sitting together at the intermission - having a "WTF" conversation. As in there is no such rule. If a player is in the crease, then you should've stopped the play, called a crease violation and moved the drop out. If the player is interfering with the goalie, then an arm should've been up for a delay, and a penalty called, in which case the offender's possession would've stopped play with a whistle and a penalty - no shot, no goal. Only way to disallow a goal would be if the net had been off (it wasn't) or the delayed penalty was already signalled and just a timing thing that the shot got off before the whistle with change of possession. But, no rule allows the waving off a goal for "incidental contact" . Then, Matt Cooke got fined $5 K for mouthing off about it. Egregious. And definitely a guy that won't be working the play-offs.

Anyhow - the CAPS got caught with a crappy brief mistake - it happens. The penalty shot call was pretty silly - seemed like Devo giving in to crowd pressure - but, still we'll see tomorrow.
