We got it last night - 13.8 inches and it started snowing again a couple of hours ago. We're only supposed to get 6-10 inches this time.

Anderson Indiana - Just northeast of Indy - On top of our barely melted 15" from the blizzard on the 13th, we got an ice storm last night...WHILE I was at work. Not fun to drive home in, but I made it ok. They're calling for 40o F today, so maybe some of this junk will melt & go away! Soooooo tired of winter that I had to start a project w/ bright flowers & birds, etc!

It's snowing here in Washington really hard. It's only supposed to be a couple of inches, and then turn to sleet and rain. It's very beautiful right now, but will get ugly soon. Cold, too! Hope the schools aren't closed tomorrow; our son has his championship JV basketball game at

7:00!

Huh- did I miss something about your broken ankle? For real - so to speak? Poor thing.

Personally - I'm exhausted - did my 12 hours in the ER yesterday, and think I sat for about 30 min total all day. The joy of being the slave to do meds, do Ivs, do blood draws, etc and I got to translate! It was fun... My favorite - the 13 yr old who came in with a hurt wrist/arm/thumb - when I was writing up some info - very nice young boy with his mom - how did it happen - walking backwards he tripped over a guitar! So, I commented that he must be in a band, and yup, but as his mom tried to laugh - he plays drums and no one is really sure what he was doing walking backwards away from the drum kit and tripping over some itinerant guitar!

Today - CAPS game - snowing since early. Roads very bad. We drove into Arlington to pick up our friends (he's from California - we don't let him drive in bad snow) and she's nervous. On one of the highways going in -it had been somewhat sanded but was not good - (I-66) there is a sudden terrible jam on the left lane. Right lane moving at a cautious 30 mph or so, left had been about 35. Suddenly we're at 5, then stopped, then 5 then stopped. People pulling out to passe on the right and get back in. Some little Asian lady, in a mid-size Cadillac sedan - hunched over her wheel, without even her lights on, and not the sense to at least get in the slower, right lane, or pull off the road. Then after our stop, heading into DC, as we're on Route 50, passing the Iwo Jima memorial heading towards the TR bridge - big ice slick. DH got kudos - we did a full set of serpentines - I think back and forth 6 times, like 3 big connected S patterns - and ended the right direction, not hitting a wall. Friend in back (for whom DH was best man a year ago) says KUDOS - Well done, and gal pal his wife - Yeah - and then "I'm going to take a Xanax now" . But we got there. Weather better leaving. Got home to about 5" =6", chamged clothes, and went out to shovel the drive and our front walk (Donna will appreciate). We had a solid close to foot deep ice pack - so now that it's warming, and we'd moved at least some of the ice on the drive - this wasn't terrible. But of course we can't find the big 25# bag of ice melt - so finished the last bit on the front from porch to drive and hope that's useful. Oh, did I mention that while shoveling it was freezing rain - but fun.

I think I'm too tired to stitch. But, it's supposed to be warm tomorrow, and it looked pretty in town today - though it was horrid driving in - much warmer and roads cleared coming home (it was a 1 pm game and we were going in at around 10:30 for brunch at 11:30, and got there at 12:30).

Yeah for people who know how to drive in bad weather. So few of them live here!

Glad to hear the driveway of death and dismemberment is being attended to. Before one of you got seriously injured.

I went out walking in this snow yesterday with the camera but stuff kept falling off the tress and I decided to bring the camera back inside. It's still pretty out there this morning. But at least school is only delayed and not cancelled! Was definitely stitching weather yesterday.

LOL - so true. After the several accidents we saw on the way in (all already happened) we were discussing routes. I just have to remind DH that speaking (as his hands are involved) is not his job! Just on the Toll Road

- we saw someone definitely missing a flight - in the Dulles section (for those not here - the road to Dulles airport has 4 lanes in a center toll free divided section, and then on either side another 3-4 lane highway which is referred to as the Dulles Toll Road) - airport direction, but facing diagonally away, and in the median.

As we got into DC crossing the bridge - the big decision - ramp down to the tidal basin, and likelihood of ending up in the tidal basin or Constitution

- which had a chance of being cleared. We saw all 3 snow plows in the city - and some brave and bewildered tourists.

I knew you'd appreciate it. We had chipped a pathway to the cars, kind of a few days back.

We almost went touristing for that en route home - I feel the urge to paint some winter watercolors, and could use some pix, but....

Maybe stitching later - got to go on an errand to the stupid, difficult HOA attornwy who has some screwball mistake record from when the management company changed and they think we owe a back payment. Jeez. DH is appreciating liberal leave for federallies - and resting his back after ice-chipping and lots of skating.

Oh yes, for real, OK! I never really believed things I`d read about people walking around on a broken ankle for days, and was quite surprised on visiting Emergency to have it checked to be told just that! Actually, it`s more trouble to me now it`s in plaster!!! The broken bone in my foot hurts more!

Sounds like you`re all having a pretty horrendous time over there, though, so I`m not complaining about our weather - wet as it is.

The local deer got their own back today - a father and eightyearold daughter were killed when a deer ran into their car - on their way from the airport, where he`d just picked up said daughter, poor mite. A baby in another car (several cars involved) is in hospital, too. The road was closed for NINE HOURS. Some mess!

We lucked out and only got a little ice and snow and it got up to 40 yesterday so more melted than fell. Since we really got dumped on in the Feb. 13-14 storm, it is only fair that we get off easy this time!

In-laws got stuck in Rochester, MN. Irony: They went to see granddaughter's baptism but church was canceled. While most of their hometown is without power, they are one of the lucky ones who do have it--and they aren't there to enjoy it! Their house is on the same block as the police and fire stations so it is a very high priority area. My parents didn't lose power although much of Iowa did (including several assorted relatives).

Wet weather makes it ache worse. Take the pain meds. Don't let the pain get intense - makes things worse - take whatever they gave you, really. You won't get addicted as physiologically there are nerves for it to work upon.

It's just all over the place.

Sounds horrid. Around here you must be very careful during deer rutting season - right now it's not too bad. But there are always those kind of accidents. The other evening - just dark - I and a pick-up in the next lane stopped - as a herd of about 10 deer came running from one small wood across the road to another. Fortunately I kind of saw them - and they really camoflauged well.

Hope you're doing better - keep it elevated.

Thanks, Ellice. I try not to take pain meds as I feel they mask anything I might be doing wrong! LOL! I AM being good and keeping it elevated, although I can`t really do what they recommend and keep it higher than my heart unless I lie on the floor! (Apart from in bed, where I`ve shoved a foam wedge under the foot of the mattress). I may have to go back though, as something is rubbing just above my ankle and I don`t want to get a sore patch. Being diabetic the circulation`s not too good in that particular leg and I`d hate to find an ulcer under there when they remove the plaster. Another reason I`m reluctant to take painkillers!

The daft lot up at the hospital gave me a walking stick and gutter frame - but I find that they are both intended for someone at least six inches shorter than me! At least they tried - they couldn`t have been kinder! Worse things happen at sea!

I phoned my daughter, Jane, when I heard the news this morning - they get called out by the Police quite a lot for road-kill deer. It was a bit out of their area, though. Just as well, they`ve had three calls already in the past week, and their freezers are full! That`s as well as what they get from official culls. I think they pay their vets` bills with venison!
