OT: annoyed by ISP

Our ISP had decided to remove the newsgroups from one hour to the next

- poor company, too expensive for them, and too much abuse. One can really cry. I try now with google groups and see, if it works for me.

I'm certainly not prepared to pay a single cent to a newsfeeder for 1 newsgroup.

Well, it looks like we might get it back, at least the text based ones.

They are not the first. news.individual.net is inexpensive per year and where I would go if my ISP did that. Google is very cumbersome, I don't care for it and it does not carry any binaries and I participate in two of those so would not want to miss them.

So far there is no threat of that here, but I would scream bloody blue murder if they did...

NIN is where I went when my ISP did it. It's billed in Euros, so depending on the exchange rate the week that I renew, it's US$15-20 a year, pennies a day. Worth it to avoid dealing with google.

I have never had a single service problem with them, either.

I read thru Googlegroups and love it. But I also use Mozilla Firefox and use Google as a homepage. I've only had that one hiccup with Googlegroups that happened back in April.

My ISP dropped the newsgroups a while back - made me ripping mad, but what do you do about it? I now read thru Google - it's not so bad once you get used to it. I'd never pay for a newsgroup - no way.

Well, they did in our neck of the woods, on Whirlpool, one of the most effective forums, we had about 85 pages of protest. The ISP is always participating nicely there, guess what, yesterday morning they had to restore the text based newsgroups. Those wanting binares have to go somewhere else, but at least the text is back. Yeepeeeh.... Sometimes one can move things.

I had subscribed to google, but can't say I liked it.

Problem solved.
